We walked down to this small little church on our day trip to Giverny. My intention was to visit Monet's grave (it is to the upper right side of the church if facing it from the street). My husband found the nearby memorial for a crashed WWll Bombardier a very touching surprise, which isn't mentioned much in all the literature and write ups of Giverny.Monet's grave and family plot is quite simple, touching and beautiful. It is heart-felt to know that although he was born in Paris, once settled into Giverny, he chose to make it his home and his and the Family's final resting place there. The church standing peacefully over the cemetery and hillside plots was not open, so we were unable to enter it. But you can still walk around it and dream. You also are allowed to freely pass or go through the surrounding hill and cemetery areas. This church is beautiful in itself from the outside. It is quite old, with white washed gothic stone walls, and seems to place you back into a simpler time when it's presence stood out for all the village locals. But then Giverny seems to do that itself as well!

We went in May and there were an amazing variety of flowers. There were an abundance of stunning bushes and trees in a colorful variety of greens. The green Japanese bridge was surrounded by waterlilies and Lilac Wisteria. The many frogs in the pond, serenaded us. As you wander throughout this lavish French garden, you understand where Monet got his inspiration. This garden took my breath away. Do not miss this attraction!

If you are in Giverny it's almost bound to be for a visit to the Monet Gardens and House. But it is worth taking a hour to walk up the hill to the church. The building is old and without the splendor of many French provincial churches but it does have a unique character and charm in its simplicity. The family grave of Monet is interesting but I found the grave and memorial to a RAF bomber crew the most moving. The crew went down in the second half of 1944 following the D Day landings and the push north east. The local population have given due respect to these fallen airmen.
