We went here as we had passed through on the way to the peninsular a few days before and saw the marshes and salt sellers by them. Our host made the booking for the tour for us and we took the 45min option which although it might not have given a full picture it was good enough. We were lucky enough to get an English speaking guide who gave a good explanation on how the salt is harvested over the period of a year. The work seemed very had for the returns they made. Each area is owned or worked by a family. There is also an exhibition inside with lots of pictures showing the marshes over the years, many with English translation or explanations to them. There is also a good shop where you can buy many salt related products and other goods as well. The down side and the complex is missing a trick here is that they do not have any sort of café or refreshment area which is a bit daft really!!

There is one tour in english a day, which we had missed. Going on a tour is apparently the only way you can get close to the salt pans on the marsh, which we wanted to do, so we decided to go anyway. However there is a pan easily visible from the carpark, and I am not sure the one we saw on the tour was any different. The man on the desk said to ask the guide to speak slowly so we could understand - we have some French - so we did, but she didn't. We could not follow much of the explanation and got more from the exhibition (some English translations there, and time to use a dictionary). I would consider just looking at the exhibition and the salt pan next to the carpark unless you speak excellent French or can go on the English speaking tour.

A very special area, no changes needed. Informing too. All about the history of our salt and about the people who have been saltmining here since the middle-ages

We drove nearly 100 km to see Terre de Sel. Unforturnately we came on a day without any tours in english... I have to tell that we came at 12.30 p.m. The girl in the reception just sad - I have a tour in english tomorrow at 2 p.m. In july with tourists in the area I think that it is not good enough. We asked if they had a brochure or something so we could go along on a french tour - but no they did not have much information in english (or in any other languages). We have read the homepage before planning our day - but nothing about "only very few guided tours in english". Like we told the staff - it is very important that the homepage is telling when you can get a guided tour in english! Otherwise maybe they can have audio in other languages. Therefore call them before going there if you need the guided tour in english! It is not possible to work around the area without a guide.

Thoroughly enjoyed learning all about the metier of 'paludier'. We opted for the one and half hour tour which was led by one of the co-operative members who took us out to the salt marshes and explained all about the job including how to harvest the gros sel and fleur de sel as well as what is involved in maintaining the land over the winter months. Would have like something a little more interactive perhaps with more focus on the differences in the salts and terroir influence as well as the chance to compare them. The visit was in French but I think the paludier spoke some English too. Certainly recommend visiting the salt marshes, cycling around and stopping here to stock up on a lovely range of products. Thought that 10 euros per person was a bit steep as it was a group of around 25 people.
