Whenever we have visitors we take them to Chateau De Courances. We love this place. It is one of only handful of privately owned Chateaus in France, owned by the original family. If you have the opportunity to spend an afternoon here, take a picnic lunch. Walk through the expansive gardens. If the tour of the Chateau is available it is not to be missed. Unfortunately it is not available during the winter months and the tour is in French. However, the gardens, the water features, the beautiful swing by the water and the Japanese gardens are not to be missed. After 5 years in France we've visited most of the well known Chateaus, but in my mind this is one of the most beautiful by far. Do yourself a favour and visit this chateau. Only an hour or so out of central Paris to the south.

A very nice privately owned castle built between 1622 and 1630 with several different owners and still lived in. Visiting the chateau and it's gorgeous gardens is only possible on weekends from 2 to 6 pm. The 40 min. mini guided tour is available in French only. The famous horse shoe stair case was added during the extensive renovation in 1872 and copied from the Chateau de Fontainebleau nearby. I very much enjoyed walking through the large garden grounds with five centuries of garden history. There are 14 springs that feed the 17 ponds and covers 150 acres. Of particular interest is the finely manicured turn of the century Japanese garden across the tea house. It was planned after WW I by the family of the present owners. It's very colorful and includes Chinese dwarf maples, liquidambars and many different types of bamboos, ferns and magnolias. Reserve about two hours for the park.

Wonderful little castle, just one hour from Paris. It's perfect for one day trip from busy paris! We spend tree weeks in Paris, and last week we were visiting things that are close - courance was the biggest suprise ! It's not to popular, so it's perfect for one easy day, to have nice picnic, and lovely walk in the garden of castle, specially the Japanese one.

This was a lovely Sunday afternoon visit where we took an interesting guided tour inside the chateau (in French) and heard about its history. We also visited the salon de thé near the Japanese gardens, which was quaint, before our guided tour and afterwards took a relaxed walking tour of the gardens.

We did not visit the chateau (for which there are guided tours I think only in French ) but the gardens are beautiful . Low key and certainly not too manicured this is a very restful garden . Very few tourists and definitely not commercialised this garden and chateau are only open weekends during the warmer months. It is not enormous so if you have a car it combines well with either Fontainebleau (forest or chateau) or one of the many other beautiful villages nearby (perhaps Milly la Foret or Barbizon) . There is a lot of water in this garden many lakes , springs , canals etc and plenty of statuary , but the highlight undoubtedly is the Japanese garden . Although one is not allowed actually in the garden there are viewing places all round and a charming tea room overlooking the garden. A pleasant gentle afternoon out

Une petite marche dans les jardins du chateau est toujours agréable et rafraichissante. L'entretien de ce jardin est rarement mis à défaut. De ce fait, déambuler dans les allées pour se changer les idées parait juste naturel ! C'est un petit havre de tranquillité que nous apprécions particulièrement !Je ne me prononcerai pas sur la visite du chateau en lui-même ne l'ayant jamais effectuée...

Bonne idée de ballade au printemps ou en automne. Visite du château intéressante et jardins très agréables .

Superbe parc pour ce chateau à découvrirLa visite du chateau est un peu frustrante car l'ensemble est plutôt vieillot et sansintérêt historiquement et artistiquementPar contre, excellence des jardins soignés à souhaitLa présence de la famille est trop marquante, pour exemple, j'ai voulu acheter un petit livret de photos du chateau pour le souvenir mais ai vite renoncé quand j'ai vu les photos de la "chatelaine" dans son parc et ses intérieursDésolée pour elle mais cela ne présente aucun intérêt et frise la mégalomanie ......Le salon de thé ne m'a pas paru assez cosy et je n'ai pas voulu y entrer .......

Très beau jardin surtout,avec ses miroirs d'eau,ses plantes,ses grandes pelouses,un bon moment de fraîcheur pas loin de Paris,son jardin exotique,ses jardins plein de recoins...
