The citadel of Sisteron is one of its kind. An dramatic geological feature is the striking site for a stronghold of many centuries old, with a rich history which is well told in pictures, audio-tours and visible and tangible remains insde the citadel itself. Be sure to make the climb up to the very top — the views are awesome and the chapel is beautifully restored. One of the highlights of our trip to this region.

The Citadelle is a must see if you get to the Sisteron area. Unfortunately, my friend and I ( visiting in December) were not able to view the inside because it is not open until March. However, just walking around the outside area makes it worth while. The history of the citadelle is remarkable and the views of Sisteron from the top is fantastic.

The Citadel is well restored castle on the top of a high hill, with a stiff climb up from the town below, but the views from the top make it well worth the effort. It also has a detailed audio history which plays in English from different parts of the castle, and by the end of the information you know all about Napoleons journey over the Alps.

Citadel well worth exploring. Quite a walk up the hill but rewarding views from the top. Well preserved and restored

This is well worth the visit. It is quite a climb to the very top and you have to marvel at those who built and later renovated it. Stunning views over the Durance valley and fascinating history. We had driven by on the motorway for many years before visiting and were glad we made the detour.

A great hike up to this citadel which give amazing views to the town of Sisteron below on the junction of two rivers. Steeped in history. Wish they had English translation. Still a great citadel to visit that isn't too touristy.

Wow - called in here on a cycling trip from Geneva to NIce - Camped just outside town. They let us bring our bikes into the grounds - even got a discount with my NUS card.Looks great when lit up at night too.

The fortress is located atop a spectacular peak and from up there visitors can enjoy impressive views. The place could do with some more and more modern displays/exhibits though.
