We love oysters and wrote down Cancale after seeing an Australian TV show feature a segment on the town.Avoid the numerous cafes and restaurants and head straight to the little market with blue and white striped stalls to buy a dozen direct from the vendors for a fraction of the price (5 euro) plus a lemon, to eat off a white plastic tray you return afterwards. Sit there on the stone wall in the sunshine and eat the freshest, briniest oysters - you'll never forget it. Part of the fun is tossing the empty shells straight below on the sea wall.Oh, and if you're in the market for a striped Breton top, avoid the first one of the corner as you come down the hill, and walk along the waterfront to the right and you'll see a shop with a wide range of striped colours (more than just navy, or red) and designs for women and children.

If you are an oyster lover I can't tell you how wonderful this experience is. You go to the end of the Cancale harbor which at first looks like the other very nice harbor towns on the coast - but this is different. At the end is a set of about 8 outdoor stalls selling the most beautiful oysters you have ever seen. You choose between 5 different sizes (4Euro-5Euro per dozen!!!). They shuck them for you there, put them on plastic plates and give you a half lemon. You sit on the edge of a ancient stone harbor wall overlooking the harbor, swallow em down and throw the shells back into the ocean. Hedonistic, gourmand, fantastic!You should know there are not delicate oysters - VERY high brine/salt and VERY large if you want the biggest, but very smooth. When you have the bigger ones, they break and fill the shell with milk. If you are less of an adventurous oyster eater, the smaller ones are much easier on the tongue.

For those who loves the oysters, this is the place to be in Bretagne! At the end of the sea side walk there are some 5-6 stands that sell fresh oysters with lemon, so you can stay and look at the the ocean, see oysters bed covered slowly by the high tide and off course enjoy the sea fruits.

A very nice little seaside town lots of food to choose from but a lot of fish a very famous town for its oysters you can see the oyster beds form the promenade well worth a few hours if your down that way

Vraiment super sympa de manger des huitres en direct des producteurs, assis sur un muret. Les vendeurs sont très accueillants et proposent différentes variétés permettant de gouter plusieurs types d'huitres. C'est mon petit plaisir à chaque passage à Cancale. Les prix sont raisonnables mais pourraient, il est vrai,être un peu plus bas vu que c'est de la vente directe.

Au fil de notre balade, nous avons découvert le petit marché aux huitres en bord de mer. Quelle trouvaille pour nous qui aimons les huitres ! Nous avons donc regardé puis demandé les horaires, le marché est ouvert tous les jours et ferme à 17h ! Les prix sont à la douzaines (intéressants pour nous qui vivons en Vendée et avons les huitres au kilos!) et vendus par 13 à la douzaine. Pour les prix, comptez entre 4 et 6€ la douzaine, tout dépend de la taille que vous prenez ! Nous avons opter pour des moyennes + à 5.40€. Délicieuses, très charnues ce fut un régal le soir. Vous avez la possibilité de les manger sur place tout en jetant vos coquilles à la mer.

Vue le prix heureusement qu'ils offres le citron, vous faites 5 km elles sont à moitié prix et aussi bonne.
