Printing is interesting in many ways. It gave the masses the ability to have books. It has allowed artist to reproduce their work to share with more than one individual and in more than one location. I have a background in art, and also I worked for Xerox for a number of years, and in both cases I have learned the history of printing. This museum I found to be very interesting because it brought to life what before I could only learn through reading.There is a lot that goes into printing. For the written word typesetting. Which is one of those things that you simply must do right the first time or everything thereafter will come out wrong. Artwork for printing I find fascinating because you must carve out the blank or white area where you wish for no ink to stick. The layering of color I find fascinating also as each color is applied one at a time, and the print must fall in the proper location and have the proper color or all you would have at the end would be a mess. The process and development of this to me is highly interesting as it is the history of everything from newspapers, books, magazines, and the ability to create art over and over in prints and lithographs.Before the tour begins you will have the opportunity to view very old pieces of printed material, and learn about the history of the owners and innovators of the print house itself. Materials such as family history, local history including that of Napoléon, storybook history as well are displayed for you. You have the opportunity to purchase prints to take home from a lovely shop on-site. Also if you are an artist I believe you can still work with the Museum, as they still print, to have your works turned into lithograph prints, and or offset prints. Basically this tour will walk you through machines and practices starting from the origin of the ability to first be able to print. There is a wealth of tools of the trade here. You can see the progression of this art through the first machines all of the way through to the now most used offset print; however even this is a bit of an antique as digital offset is taking over as it becomes more affordable and the quality of the image goes up. I would say this is a must see especially for those in the printing business and artists.

The Museum of Imagery is supposed to cover colorful images from the days before photogaphy and even up to date continuing printed images, such as found in comics. The history may be interesting but this Museum's exhibits are very poorly lighted and the permanent exhibit is virtually impossible to follow due to the lack of lighting. On the other hand the Boutique is well lit and has very good reproductions and copies of " devinettes" that are NOT found in the Museum. These are the printed images that ask a question with the answer being hidden in the same image as the question. You then have to turn the image and look carefully to find the hidden image. Very cleverSo save your money to take home a clever reproduction rather than a waste in the Museum; Easy parking and easy to find in Epinal.

Musée en deux parties. Une exposition retraçant l'histoire de l'impression des images ensuite une très intéressante visite guidée (à 15H00) dans d'anciens ateliers produisant des "images d'Epinal"Anciennes machines toujours en service, explications détaillées et sans lourdeur d'une guide très compétente. A voir absolument. La visite se termine classiquement dans la boutique du musée. Les objets mis en vente m'ont paru assez chers.

Es un paseo que si pasas por alli, es bueno, pero no para ir puntualmente. Hay imagenes y fotografias antiguas, que pueden llegar o no, a gustarte.Por momentos haria falta un poco mas de luz, para ver mejor las imagenes...

Génial j'ai adoré ! Un retour à travers le passé très intéressant et enrichissant. Bravo à ceux qui permettent la survie de cet endroit et à ceux qui contribue par leur passion de transmettre. C'est beau !

nous étions venus à epinal pour visiter l'imagerie et nous n'avons pas été décus, depuis le temps que nous voulions venir, c'est à la hauteur de ce que l'on imaginaitil règne une ambiance familiale avec l'envie de transmettre et d'apprendre, les visites sont vraiment très bien faites et c'est avec un grand plaisir que nous reviendrons dorénavant

Visite uniquement du musée. Bof... A réserver aux plus de 60 ans qui ont connu les images d'Épinal. Aucune explication sur la fabrication. Juste une collection pèle mêle d'images.

Evidemment, si l'on visite Epinal .... il serait difficile de ne pas penser aux Images ....! Visite agréable et instructive, très bien commentée par une femme guide qui travaille réellement à faire de vraies images d'Epinal ...
