beautiful exterior with flying buttresses and an amazing colour of the stone, inside the acoustics were great, some people were singing, and the general gothic nature most imposing

I have been to many Cathedrals and this one is by far one of the most amazing. Inside, the height of the church is impressive and the Chagall stained-glass windows are beautiful. The crypt was a small museum (4 euro an adult and 2 euro for child), probably not that exciting, but this ticket also took us to the Treasure room, which again, is small but interesting.

First off, it's amazing. Best cathedral I've seen of the 10 or so since I moved here 2 months ago. However I was taken aback by the gift shop in the middle of the sanctuary. And the scammers they have charging 4 Euros to use the toilet in the catacombs that laugh when you mention there was no bathroom downstairs and don't offer refunds should find another locale for employment. Totally ruined my impression of the whole city.

I was there for a couple days in summer 2012 at different daytimes. Taking pictures is allowed, no flash, only small tripods. When the sunrays beamed through the multicolored cathedral windows, there was a beautiful effect on the interior building. Many tourists are visiting this sacred place.

I've arrived to Metz by train from Luxembourg - 16 euro all day per person. From the train station (which is incredibly beautiful) keep straight ahead and follow the signs. When you see it you will be stunned by the beauty and by the size of this building. Is somehow majestic and holy but in the same time it's also creepy.Very nice stained glass window! You can also try the guided tour, if not it is free of charge - of course although is nice to make a donation. Beautiful town, beautiful restaurants - you can also travel by train to Brussels, to Luxembourg,Strasbourg and many other big Europe city - very well connected.

This cathedral (Sain Etienne) is free to visit and worth the time to do so! I was amazed by it's enormity from it's vaulted ceilings to the endless panes of stained glass. It's been my favorite cathedral we've seen so far in Europe. It's nicknamed God's Lantern because of all the stained glass windows, one visit on a sunny day and you'll understand why. There are photos on my blog post here: http://www.worldtravelingmilitaryfamily.com/saint-etienne-cathedral-metz-france/

I have visited dozens of cathedrals in my many tours across Europe, but the Metz cathedral stands as one of the most impressive surviving examples of the magnificent genius of gothic architecture. Largely spared in the Second World War, the cathedral towers in such a way as to make visitors feel exceptionally small, impressed, and at peace. This cathedral reportedly contains the most stained glass in any structure in the world (need to verify), and this lends to a truly angelic lighting in all types of weather (it's especially brilliant on sunny days). The cathedral is quite large and a lot of time could be spent here (especially if you attend or observe a mass and/or tour the crypt), but at least take half an hour to wander through and around this immaculate house of worship. Entrance to the cathedral is free, though donations are accepted, and the crypt may be entered for a small fee if you are so inclined. Do not miss this spectacular place if you're in or near Metz!

Beautiful architecture and must see the place. Be sure to tour inside and go through the information walkway within the cathedral.

We spent several hours just wandering around and looking at the cathedral. My son and I took a tour through the "Crypt" that we both enjoyed. There were a bunch of small models for cathedrals that were interesting to look at.

Have been here before...and visited again this past November. Never lets me down. The architecture is stunning, of course. The stain glass windows are varied. There is a surprise here however. Several stain glass windows are by Marc Chagall. Metz is worth the visit, especially on Flea Market days!
