Confolens is around 20 minutes from Chabanais and we found it easily with the Velorail signs. I was with my 2 children 15 and 13 and I needed them for the pedalling. Beautiful countryside and a few gates along the rail track after a brief intro in French and English by the friendly staff. Basically you can get four or even five people on the pedal driven 'vehicle'. Definitely more pleasurable when their is no rain around but its around 7 km each way and you need 2 to 3 people to take turns with the pedalling. A lovely afternoon overall and refreshments at the half way mark. Only let down was only one toilet at the half way stage but they look like they are making improvements.Check the times and book ahead as very popular when we were there

The surroundings are picturesque and the park at Bussiere-Galant is a treat with a large lake and high wire which crosses the lake

times on the flyers advertise 09-19 but velorail actually departs 11:00,1500 & 1730 during high season,We arrived 1120 so had to return for the 3pm trip. English is spoken by the young team although rather begrudgingly.The session started late and we were given an over-detailed and quite tedious instructive talk in very fast French, In fairness we and the Dutch speakers were given pauses in which to ask questions but decided the contraption was actually VERY simple to operate.Even as we reached the start position and given final instructions no English was offered.each Velorail seats four with 2 doing all the work. The single gear means effort is only necessary at low speeds and the uphill sections (don't worry they are railway gradients)Rather noisy progress is soon made and the level crossings easy to navigate by responsible adults. I was reminded of "The great St Trinian's train robbery" ;-)The only disappointment was the destination, a dead end clearing, just short of Chalus with no picnic tables or facilities. Everyone simply had a quick breather lifted and turned their carts around.This is when the return trip order was agreed, with the slowest in rear. We had formed a train and helped them along previously.A fun afternoon out and one of the many attractions of the Bussier Gallant Plan D'eau.Just a pity it didn't link to the rest of Chalus and the voir verte cycle path beyond.

Sympa d'entendre les rails, ça va vite en descente et il faut bien pédaler dès que ça monte un peu, même sous la pluie c'était sympathique

Voici une idée de sortie très sympa, on se balade au milieu de la forêt, on se détend, on rigole par contre attention aux remontées, quand vous êtes 4 adultes et que seule 2 personnes pédalent et qu'il faut remonter des côtes interminables, on fini un peu lessiver de se parcours de 10km.

A 20 min de limoges .....voilà pour passer une bonne a/m en famille ou entre amis surtout si le beau temps est au rendez vous...

C'est génial, j'y suis allée à deux reprises, en famille et entre amis, on "rigole" bien, c'est vraiment cool

le limousin possede un réseau de velo-rails important qui permet aux familles comme aux individuels de pouvoir en faire partout et presque en toute saison!
