this is its main building 150 m from - the main building offers an opportunity to WALK throuhg the rear Roman street under the castle which is the original and was not moved from somewhere. Interesting exibition on the Middle Age period as well. Takes time to visit as it is big and has info in English (not always a case in Slovenia). The second building offers also interesting and deverse topcis on the ground floor and unique ceiling and real interior decoration, furniture, etc. of Prince of Celije and of that epoque.

If you're in the Celje area, this is a very good museum to visit. This museum houses a permanent as well as temporary exhibitions. It includes cultural and art history collections. You can find the in situ remains of Roman Celeia, a nice lapidary collection, some artifacts from the Counts of Celje, who were one of the most influential noble families in the Slovenian lands in the Late Middle Ages.In the room which combines objects from the period between the Renaissance and Baroque, an outstanding item is the inlaid wardrobe of precious wood, lined with ivory and tortoise shell. Baroque exhibits are displayed under the vault of the former kitchen of the mansion. Work by the Celje Baroque sculptor Ferdinand Galle is exhibited in a room with Rococo painted walls. The period of the Late Baroque and Rococo is presented through characteristic furnishings. Classicist and Empire art are illustrated by precious pieces of furniture, clocks, china, miniatures and the like. The Biedermeier period is reflected by burgher furniture and numerous portraits. The last room is dedicated to objects belonging to historicism. You can also find a very impressive ceiling painting (the thing this museum is most famous for) from the period of transition from the late Renaissance to early Baroque. This museum was also nominated for the »European Museum of the Year« award in 1990.Admission fee is 5,00€ for adults, 4,00€ for groups over 10 people, 3,00€ for students and 10,00€ for the entire family. It's a lovely museum to visit with lots to see.
