We were in Slovenia a couple of years ago (July 2013). We did quite a bit of touring, but this was the highlight of our trip. We took the four hour tour and loved every minute of it. These caves are as nature made them, and not spoiled by excessive tourism. Book well in advance, and be prepared to have to cancel your trip if the water level is too high or too low. Dress warmly with multiple layers. When you are advised to wear two pairs of socks, do so. Your feet will appreciate it. The guide was informative. The caves are stunning! You walk in a ways, and then you travel from grotto to grotto via rubber raft. This trip works well for people who are reasonably fit. Some parts are slippery, so if you have any mobility problems, I would not suggest it. I wouldn't take a child under 9 or 10 on this trip. The four hours is totally worth it, but it's a long time in a cold, dark place and once you're on the trip, you can't easily take a scared child back to the car. This trip is totally worth doing. Two years later, we'll still talking about how wonderful it was. (P.S. You have to pay by cash.)

We wanted to take the 4 hour tour with boats but the water level was to high so we only took the 1 hour tour by foot (includes a 10 min boat ride in one of the cave lakes). It is a nice cave, the nice thing is the river that runs in the middle and the lakes inside but as mentioned we only got to see 1. Only for cave enthusiasts.

I normally don't write reviews for attractions - not sure why, perhaps a habit from the early days when TripAdvisor didn't have such a focus on attractions. But in this case I thought I'd make an exception, because this cave is really unique. We visited Slovenia in July and at first planned to go to Postojna like everybody does. However I was put off by reviews describing how touristic and crowded it is especially during high season. So we changed our plans to include Krizna Jama instead and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip.You feel like you are let in on a secret when visiting this cave, because it's so not touristic and the groups are small. The story behind it is also fascinating, and the best moment is when everybody turns off their hand lamps and you find yourself in 100% complete darkness, and then realize that until not too long ago bears used to come as deep as you are right now just by sniffing and feeling their way in.It's cold inside, but long sleeves and pants should be enough for the average person. Have socks available for the rubber boots you'll be wearing inside the cave. The trail is easy, fit for almost anyone including young kids. On top of everything else, it also costs much less then Postojna - only 8 Euros for adults. We wholeheartedly recommend it.

Krizna Jama was the highlight of our trip to Slovenia and this tour was certainly one of the best I have taken in my life.We took the 4 hour tour which we were lucky enough to get seats for only very short prior to the trip. There is a maximum of 4 people a day, they do everything to preserve the cave - no mass tourism!From what I've experienced I don't think taking the 1 hour tour is worth it. Do everything you can to take the 4 hour tour, you will never forget this.You take steps into a cave, from there it's dark. You have a headlight and you are equipped with suits and boots (dress warm!) but besides the light on your head there is no artificial light source. You are going deeper and deeper into the cave and every once in a while you switch off your light to see how you are going further and further away from the entrance and it gets darker and darker. So creepy. Don't come here if you have claustrophobia.The cave is full of small lakes, most of them you need a boat to cross, the boats are waiting there for you. One of the boat has a light underneath which gives you a spectacular view on the ground. The water is the clearest I have seen in my life.You go deeper and deeper into the cave and it gets more impressive and more beautiful with every meter. There is so many spectacular things that our Guide Gašper showed us that every minute had its own "wow effect". I don't want to talk too much about it to not ruin the surprises.Gašper was an excellent guide, he knows every centimeter of the cave and makes sure everyone is safe and well informed.At one point I almost fell into the water while we had to wait at a narrow, slippery point. It's nobody's fault, just make sure you are aware of the dangers every outside activity brings along before bringing expensive camera gear.Maybe one day I will come back and rent the tour only for myself and my tripod for more impressive pictures. Just seeing this cave a second time would be a dream.I hope the people will always go on with their preservation of this hundreds of thousands of years old artwork of nature so it will never be as terrible mass-tourismish as the Postojna cave.This trip was an experience I will remember for the rest of my life.

I've been on a business visit to Križna cave and I liked it alot.I went for one 1 hour site seeing, most of the site seeing we did by foot but at the end of our route we also took a dinghy and checked out the part which was floded. We saw some cave meiofauna, bacterias and Cave bear (Ursus spelaeus) skull compared to Brown bear (Ursus arctos), there is also a big variety of stalactites and stalagmites. The cave has no illumination and I support the cave guides which want to preserve the cave for the animals that are living inside of it and could be affected by light pollution. But don't worry every visitor gets his own battery so you can observe the cave nonetheless. You also get rubber boots, you have to dress properly because inside the cave gets very chilly and is very humid (Waterproof jacket and some woolen socks). Outside there is alot of space to park your car matter of fact the entrance to the cave is few meters away from the parking. And I advise you, if you have time, go for the longer site seeing, call them and book your trip.Short site seeing doesen't need booking. The gudies are super nice and will speak english if you don't speak slovenian. My husband and I visited the Krizna Jama caves today and did the one hour tour. At the end, we were wishing we had booked the 4 hour tour! It is very rustic in a good way. You get rubber boots and a light as there is no electricity installed in the caves. The inside is impressive and you end with a boat ride on a lake inside the cave. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. I highly recommend visiting Krizna Jama if you are in Slovenia. We did this as a "rainy day" activity but you should go even if it is sunny!

This was an amazing experience. The cave system is well protected and not polluted like other cave systems which are too popular in Slovenia such as Postojna caves. These caves only take around 8000 visitors a year compared to over half a million in Postojna. In order to enter the cave you need to book from their website. There will be a guide which will give you boots and special torches. The cave is in total darkness and there is not anything artificial inside it except for 2 white tapes on the floor to keep you on the path. We took the short tour - 1 hr 15 minutes. It takes you inside the cave in about 600 metres and then you will take a boat trip on a lake inside the cave system in total darkness - it was amazing. Next time I will go for the 4 hr tour which takes you deeper in the cave. Also, you can see most of the cave system in the 7 hr tour but that may be too much for most.The tour only costs like EUR8 each so it is WORTH THE MONEY!!! We actually gave him EUR10!The air inside the cave is very moist. You can actually see the water particles in the air and so it must be close to 100% humid. I strongly recommend that you visit this cave system if you are going to Slovenia. However, please note that you will need a car and a GPS to arrive at the destination as it is in the middle of a forest. You will feel lost at a point in time but simply keep on following the offroad track and you'll arrive in no time. Enjoy! :)

Krizna Jama is a very nice cave, it is still natural and has good infrastructure for the visit. They have visits every weekend at 3pm, it costed 8 euros. We arrived 20 minutes before, on a rainy Sunday, the way is well signalized so we could find easily the cave from the small town and once the guide came they gave us boots and lanterns to help the visit, what made everything easy and safe inside the cave.The guide gave us lots of informations and was very friendly. I highly recommend the cave and the one hour tour, I would like to try the 4h one in the future.The cave is very cold and there is some water coming from the ceiling, so I would recommend to get rain coat and something warm to use.

Our family was able to do the 60 - 80 minute tour which was for us alone. The price was reasonable given what other caving experiences in many other countries have cost us. Our guide was knowledgable and engaging. We loved that this is not a "tourist" cave in that the inside hasn't been developed with concrete paths etc. Our only downside was that due to our timeline, we were unable to take part in the 4.5 hour experience. We will definitely return to Slovenia for this opportunity!

Krizna jama is a big complex of wild caves located near Bloska Polica village. There are 3 options to choose to visit but only the shortest one (taking approx. 60 - 80 minutes) can be participated without preliminary arrangement. The admission fee is quite high however (8 EUR/pers. for short visit, 45EUR/pers. for medium one). The tour includes rental of protecting shoes and handheld light.The cave is free of any artificial facilities (electrical light, concrete pavements etc.) making it quite unusual and maybe a bit adventurous. The guides are pleasant and willing.
