Amazing church and we would love more time to look. We were part of a party of 8 persons. My daughter and I were given an English card to follow. It was very rushed and I will recommend that they provide headphone guides as most people including myself will be happy to pay a small addition to the entrance fee. I attended the church service on new years eve which was very spiritual.

what to say amazing, carvings, statues,paintings and all atmosphere. Only minus was that our guide was on race. She was talking so fast it was almost impossible to understand everything what she said

There were a lot of tourists including us! 15min.walk from Kosice station. I stayed at doubletree hotel,from there within 5min.walk. Must see, if you were in Kosice. There are some nice outside cafe, gelato stores for your fun walk! Compared to major EU countries, everything are quite cheap.It is like you can feel a glance of Bruges at 1/3 travel expense.

Church of St. Jacob visited in July 2012.The church from the outside it looks very ugly, flaking and crumbling bricks and all this rubbish overgrown with weeds.This is perhaps the oldest church in Slovakia and is very sloppy, such monuments should be renewed and maintained only recently begun to maintenance of the church interior.The interior is not as ugly as I expected, though the work has only just begun.To enter the church you need to buy a ticket for two Euro.W Price inclusive guided przewodnikiem.Przewodnik foreigner always gives a description and map of the church which is very useful for tourists.Church and the town itself I like, and surely it will come back.

On last Saturday (09-10-2010) I came to Levoca, Slovakia to see St. Jacob's Church and it's famous wooden Gothic altars, the largest in Europe, (18.62 m (61.09 ft) in height), created by Master Paul around 1520.The Church is closed, but according to the information hanging on the church' door, it is to be opened for visitors (on Sat.) at 9.00, 10.00 .... till 14.00. - the last entrance. So, me and my familly were waiting in front of a Church for a local guide from 13.55, but no one came to us and the Church remains to be closed. At 14.15 a middle-age women left alone the Church and said, that ... the last entrance had taken part! She shouted angrily to us, that no one had been waiting for her at 14.00. (it was a lie!) and so it was Saturday - she was going home! She was really furious! She has gone to the office and closed a door.My familly and a group of visitors (about 20 persons) havn't gone inside.I''ve never seen such a situation before.

Костел-храм святого Якуба-Якова славится тем, что здесь находится самый большой в мире деревянный алтарь ручной работы. Увы, сам храм наполовину обтянут тканью, так как идут реставрационные работы. Внутрь него нельзя попасть по той же самой причине. Но если этот деревянный алтарь хотя бы немного напоминает те резные фигуры, которые выставлены в доме-музее мастера Павла, то храм обязательно нужно посетить.

Altaret renoveras just nu så man ser inte särskilt mycket av det, men kyrkan är ju intressant i sig. Det är endast guidade visningar vid bestämda tider. Delar av vårt sällskap kom för sent och hade inte kontanter på sig men personalen såg till att vi kunde ansluta till gruppen och betala efteråt. Mycket hjälpsamma.

Совершенно случайно попали на экскурсию. Купили билеты непосредственно на входе у экскурсовода (хотя касса располагается в здании напротив). Цена взрослого билета 2 евро, детского – 1 евро. Фотосъемка запрещена. Во время экскурсии дверь закрывается на замок (ни войти, ни выйти). Экскурсия проводилась на словацком, но при желании мы могли бы все послушать «вторым рейсом» по-русски. Конечно, это здорово, но нам было жалко времени, к тому же наша семья у входа разделилась, и часть ждала на улице, когда же нас выпустят. Храм, бесспорно, хорош и интересен, но главная его ценность – самый большой в мире деревянный алтарь, был на реставрации, весь закрыт строительными лесами, поэтому посмотреть на него не удалось.

Contrairement aux autres pays où bon nombre d'églises furent pillées, la Slovaquie détient encore des authentiques trésors et joyaux artistiques médiévaux dans ses églises. Aussi ces dernières sont-elles généralement soigneusement fermées à clef sauf lors des visites accompagnées. A l'intérieur de celle-ci à Levoca, vous verrez entre autres un magnifique et très ancien retable signé Pavol et classé au patrimoine mondial d'une valeur inestimable. La petite ville fortifiée de Levoca vaut le coup d'oeil pour son architecture médiévale. Dehors, non loin de l'église, on trouve aussi une ancienne cage de la honte. Poussez l'excursion alentours jusqu'à l'autre église voisine de Marianska Hora, sur la colline. Superbe panorama. L' hiver slovaque étant rude, Cette ancien village est à visiter de préférence par un beau jour d'été pour pouvoir en apprécier pleinement le charme.
