Is a Samson not a Sampson!!!!! Please repair the name of our amazing Samsonfountain. I hope, that somebody read this comments..

I'd been expecting to be disappointed with this. After all, it's only a fountain, and surely a fountain couldn't deserve such praise? I was wrong. It's STUNNING. It's a triumph, too, as a focus for the great main square. Compare and contrast the equally dramatic but miserably boxed-in Trevi fountain in Rome.

This Baroque fountain dating back to 1721 (stonemason Zachariáš Horn) is the largest of its kind in the Czech Republic (17 metres high and 200 m3 of water). Three gradually decreasing basins placed one above the other on the sculpted Center pillar, from the Middle a octagonal basin, the balustrade is decorated with four decorative vases, the large pedestal with four gargoyles, the sculptures (including Samson who fights a lion and the four mythical giants who carry the basin) are created by Josef Dietrich. Around the fountain are 24 stone pillars connected by a huge chain. Originally the fountain did not only have an aesthetic function but also a practical one: to supply the city water from the Vltava River.

Very Big and beatiful fountain right in downtown. A few blocks away from the train station. Lots of other nice architectural building(s) near the fountain

Небольшой, но симпатичный фонтан, хорошо вписывается в ансамбль центральной площади. Рядом с ним назначают встречи и свидания, и конечно. фотографируются.

Okolo této kašny jsem šel asi tisíckrát a v noci , když je osvícená neznám hezčí kašnu.i Když pamatuji z útlého věku jak byla zanedbaná)))))))

Расположен в центре площади, представляет собой украшенную скульптурами чашу. По вечерам включают подсветку, отчего фонтан приобретает необычный вид. Но часто окружён машинами, поскольку кто-то догадался устроить парковку прямо на площади.

Обычный фонтан в стиле барокко. Подобных очень много в европейских городах. Странно оценивать его вне контекста центральной площади - сам по себе он не выразителен, но как доминанта площади обращает на себя внимание.
