The Abbey is undergoing extensive major renovation, which we were were unaware of until booking a tour. Especially disappointing was the fact that the historic library, which looks superb in photos, was full of scaffolding and the painted ceiling and books were shrouded in covers. Some parts of the abbey are still in viewable condition however, and the one hour tour filled a rainy afternoon nicely. NB,at one point, mummies of monks and local people connected with the Abbey are shown..these are uncovered llaid on the floor in open coffins, in varying states of wear and tear, and may be unsuitable for children to see

Another monastery devastated by the decades of communist neglect, in this case not a benign one as it was used as a forced labor camp for monks and priests. A baroque gem, will come back next year when the garden should be reconstructed.

we;ve visited Broumow on Sunday (between 1-2 PM) - the town was almost empty. no people on the streets, market place, anywhere.so we were a little afraid the the Abbey could be closed, but - fortunatelly for us - it was open. we had to wait for a guide, who showed us around. so we waited in the cafe inside the complex.the guided tour took around 1 hour - we;ve seen whole compex - unfortunatelly there were some renovation inside.but I thin we have seen all the atractions with beautiful church and the replique of Tourin;s shroud.the prices are reasonable - we paid 210 CZK for 2.

Old baroque abbey in Broumov, just near from border with Poland (former Germany Silesia) is some jewell and forgotten treasure of this part of north eastern edge of Bohemia (Czech Republic). Abbey is an center for network of baroque built monasteries and churches in complex sign of the holy cross! This is the secret of this sacred landscape built in centuries by German - Czech settlements. So You can start in Broumov, but it is only an invitation to baroque beauties around this forgotten city. From Germans are here only few people but in the last years local people work on rennaisance of old sacred landscape ghost... Nice visit for bike tour or other in two tree days! Explore it!

Being part of a group meant having a guided tour of the Abbey. The history, who did what and why, made a fascinating story. The guide, a monk himself, permitted photographs to be taken which are a great reminder of the day.A leather globe of the world from 1612, a library with more than 16,000 original books are some of the details. You would have to take the tour yourself to fully understand this magnificent Abbey, now not in use.

De ingang naar het kerk- en kloostergeheel is in een onopvallend straatje. Bij binnenkomst van het centrum van Broumov is het direkt linksaf. Door de poort komt men in de kloostertuin met links de ingang tot kerk, klooster en bibliotheek. Doordat in de sovjettijd het onderhoud minimaal was, moet er veel worden opgeknapt, maar een bezoek is zeker de moeite waard. Vooral de bibliotheek heeft een prachtige uitstraling. In het klooster is een kopie van de Lijkwade van Turijn te zien, het doek waarin Jezus destijds is ingewikkeld na de kruiziging.Zo luidt althans het verhaal.Duizenden oude boeken zijn destijds door de sovjets verbrand,maar gelukkig zijn er nog heel veel aanwezig.
