One of the most interesting parts of Sicily is the valley of Noto, with beautiful baroque towns which were rebuilt in 1600 after a devastating earthquake. The largest is Ragusa old town, end there is Modica, Noto and Scicli. In my view Sclicli is the most charming and worth a day visit and an overnight staying. Not surprisingly it was selected as the filming location of many of the episodes of Inspector Montalbano, a very popular TV series.It is located down a narrow valley with two canyons and has an impressive collection of baroque churches and palazzi. There are also signs of previous civilization, previously agitated caves and fortification. It is a very compact little town where one can safely walk everywhere. It is truly spectacular at night when the churches in the steep hills are illuminated. There are plenty of activities: the beaches are 20 min driving away, there are superb walks within the city and the hills, several national reserves for bird watching nearby. There are also a few excellent restaurants and some interesting shops. There are quite a few hotels, and b & b, one of them quite charming.

Scicli is a lovely town with many excellent restaurants, and cafes. The palaces are beautiful, and there are many photo opportunities. It is a great place to wonder around, and though it is a popular destination, it still retains a feel that is undoubtedly Sicilian. Over all, a lovely town, with many things to see, do and eat! We didn't manage to visit the beach, but from what I've heard, it's excellent too!

Scicli, a UNESCO World Heritage site, a town that was rebuilt in the grandiose Sicilian Baroque style around 1700 following an earthquake that destroyed virtually all of the previous buildings but interestingly still boasts some Troglodyte inhabitants living in dwellings hewn out of the rocky cliffs. It has many churches and palazzo, all fabulously decorated inside despite the ravages of time and occasional earth tremors. We found a local guide who took us on a walking tour around the town in the evening pointing out many of the interesting features, well worth the exercise. Lots of restaurants and live music in the square on the Saturday evening that we were there.Limited hotels but more old buildings are being converted however many options available for B&B apartments often equipped with self catering facilities. If you tire of the town, the beach is a 15 minute bus ride away.For fans of Inspector Montalbano, much of it is filmed in Scicli.

While i really enjoyed visiting Ragusa Ibla & Noto, Scicli is a more understated, but equally beautiful town. Fans of Inspector Montalbano will recognise several streets and numerous buildings in the town centre. There are some nice independent shops in and around the town centre, and more delighful churches than you would expect for a small town. There are some nice piazzas with cafes to while away some time drinking coffee and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the town. A long cliff face wraps around one side of the town, and you can park for free along its base. The cliff walls have old hovels and shops cut into them, a few still used today.Well worth a few hours of your day.

The Location is ideal cause at heart of the all tour you can go from herein all directions of the so called wider Noto valley. The concentration of churches and cathedras is countless.

If you are visiting Sicily this is a "must see" place, the world renowed architecture, recognized by UNESCO and the great hospitality of its inhabitants are making this little town a great place to be visited.

This is a beautiful baroque city but whoever is driving tourism appears to think that tourists will be prepared to pay for every building they wish to visit while having virtually no other resources to accommodate their needs. Finding a restaurant to eat in is almost impossible with only two appearing to be open, one of which is not good value or quality. As an experienced traveller with a good knowledge of Italy and good language skills I felt despondent. I searched down all the non-tourist areas as well as the key squares and found nothing. Eventually I came upon one thanks to a friendly bar owner. A tourist office and network has been set up and there are employees at the entrance of all major sites that are open and whose job is to charge entrance fees. Even though I could enter for nothing, I did not on principle. I have never seen this type of approach in other parts of Sicily or in Italy and I feel that the Ragusa area which is relatively new to tourism has made bad decisions which are likely to deter a second visit. Tourists do not want to feel 'ripped off' and at the moment that is happening not just in this city but in restaurants and bars in others. So sad.

The church in town center is nondescript except for the children playing soccer on the front patio. The inside with its' paintings, sculptures, and displays is awesome......on a par with the Sistine Chapel beauty wise.

The small town of Scicli is located at approx 30 driving minutes from Modica and is absolutely worth a visit – probably the best time is the late afternoon, when the heat of the sun decreases and the light is softer. The historical town is an astonishing series of old baroque palaces and churches, small, clean squares....
