We visited Chapel of Pieta having climbed a long flight of steps, but the climb was well worth while, A small chapel a church and outside stations of the cross were wonderful.

Chapel of Pieta is not a Baveno's church- this is faulty.. What there is in Baveno is the church of Santi Gervasio e Protasio (the photow of the trevellers are indeed of this church..) , which is a lovely church with nice fresvoes, a great octagonal baptistery and a very quiet yard- a lovely place.The church is described in attraction no 1 of baveno(Piazza de la Chiesa), where there are more photow.

This very attractive village on the shores of Lake Maggiorie.On the Lake you have 3 islands,one of the islands is called isola borromea,it has a huge palace where various italian royalty has stayed over the years.Also a island called Isola Pescattori where has a great restuarent.The boats for these islands leave from Baveno,with a great capitain called MARIO,and the great italian voice of Marios father.Baveno is a great village,very attractive with great Chapel of the Pieta,and others.Good shopping as well.Also easy access to milan,by train from Baveno Station.Baveno has great hotels,and i for one have many great memories of this beautiful place,and made many friends,as Mario beeing only one of them.Whatever time of year you visit Baveno you will love it.

What a lovely place to visit and so beautiful inside. Monks arrived when we were there and it was great to hear the history and how they lived.

The Sanctuario della Pieta is not in Baveno. It is in Cannobio about 12 miles away. If you like religious buildings, it's well worth the boat trip. The building is on the lake front just a few yards from the boat station - you can't miss it!On Sundays, there is a large market on the lake front at Cannobio. There is a fast hydrofoil service from Baveno that gets you there in time for Mass at the Sanctuario - surely the best way to visit any church. You can then work your way through the market and then visit the historic town centre up the slope at the Southern end of the esplanade.

La chiesa dei ss. Gervasio e Protasio (e non Santuario della Pietà), presenta una struttura completamente di pietra, e così anche il campanile ; all'interno si scopre un ambiente con tratti decisi, piccole vetrate ed un bel crocefisso proprio nella parte alta del soffitto ; originale anche la minuscola scala a chiocciola per salire al grande organo ; un ambiente che invita al raccoglimento.

Chiusa nel centro di Baveno è veramente molto bella la chiesa col suo battistero, il porticato, e la domus, recentemente tutto ristrutturato anche la via di accesso, ; vale la pena di fermarsi.

E' uno dei quattro pilastri del meraviglioso Centro Monumentale che si erge in cima a un terrapieno, che interra tre precedenti Edifici di Culto, nel centro di Baveno: lo storico Battistero, l'Edificio Ecclesiastico di stile Romanico, la Via Crucis e la Cappella della Deposizione, qui ricordata come Santuario della Pietà. Le caratteristiche storiche dei quattro edifici che contornano la indimenticabile Piazza della Chiesa, ristrutturata trent'anni orsono, sono rintracciabili sulle Guide apposite. Il viaggiatore si limita ad ammirarne estasiato l'armonia, la plasticità e l'essenzialità: vi si accede dalle rive del Lago (Maggiore o Verbano che dir si voglia) lungo una dolce scalinata che lascia intravvedere le ultime arcate della Via Crucis ed il classico campanile che, coi rintocchi delle sue campane, scandisce i tempi della tranquilla cittadina lacustre.
