This is one of the great hidden treasures in Italy's south. If there were no beach here, the hiking would be enough to fill a day with breath-taking view. But there is a beach - one of the most beautiful in Apulia! There are several trails leading down to the beach, but my favorite is the one with the trail head near the Torre Uluzzo on the north end. The sand is not fine at this beach (though it is a sandy-bottomed cove), and there are stones to be sure. But it's surrounded by a low rock out-cropping that provides plenty of comfortable space to relax in the sun. One of the interesting things about this beach is that it is actually fed through a series of underground river springs, which causes the water to have a very low salinity (it tastes almost fresh!)...It is brisk near these springs, which are all along the rocks as far as I went out. But the swimming hole to the north are very warm and pleasant. The water there is crystal clear, about 12 feet deep and ready to be leaped in to by the rocks that surround them! Can't say enough about this fantastic beach, and if you want t a good look at it all, check out this link to a video I shot of it last time I visited - Avanti! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wl6RE3Gpy0s&list=UUo5EClctJG-rIAGPB1l_pFA

This us a rocky wild beach attached which you get to going through a protected forest. The beauty is undeniable and so is the quality, cleanliness of the Chrystal clear water is undeniable. However if you're going with small children remember that it's a little walk from the road. You also need to get some snacks and water as there is a little shack selling a few things but as there's nothing else he runs out fairly quickly.

the park surrounding the beach was and still is amazing but nowadays in summertime it is really overcrowded. Also, the water is fresh, which means much more cold than other places.

Simply one of the best place I have ever seen in my life! Wood, sea, great view... And for the swimming lovers, very clean water.

Porto Selvaggio is a stunning nature reserve with stone beaches on the Ionian Sea. Having spent many years with the Dalmatian coast as my weekend get-away, my standards for beautiful coasts are rather high, and I was thrilled that not only does Porto Selvaggio have the pines, the cliffs, and the water, but also the scenic towers above you.

No lidos, wait service or lounge chairs here, just pine scented air and turquoise waters, sun and relaxation, this place is like it used to be. You might want to consider bringing water shoes, though, as it can be a bit rocky!

You better believe the reviews when they say it's a wild beach. It is beautiful and it is wild. You have to park your car on the road and walk about 1 km down to the beach through what seemed like a pine wood.Once you reach, it's rocky and, when we were there, the sea was stormy so the water was choppy. It didn't seem very commercial at all although there were people tanning themselves on the rocks. To add: THIS IS A PHOTOGRAPHER'S PARADISE for 'seascape' shots. I am definitely going back even if only for that. I have docked 1 star because this is your typical beach and I am not sure how suitable it is for families.Recommended!

Right in the middle of Porto Selvaggio natural park and wildlife reserve, this beach is one of the best in Italy and this year got again the 5 sails of Legambiente green association. If you decide to visit it please bring with you water and sandwiches because there is not bars or services it is only 100% nature.

My dad lived in Puglia for many years and took us to the beach at Porto Selvaggio and other hidden gems. We parked in Santa Maria al Bagno and walked up to the ruined tower then through the woods and down steps to the beach (15 minute walk), which is part of a small pristine national park (but planted less than 100 years ago). Even though the water is colder than other beaches nearby, because it is said that a spring feeds into the sea there, the sea is turquoise and calm, and it is a very peaceful place for a day out, a swim and picnic. It is great if you prefer wild beaches to managed beaches with rows of umbrellas. It would be a perfect tranquil setting but for the rubbish that gets washed up on the beach. The water wasn't warm by Italians' standards (June) but for northern Europeans it is still comfortable to swim in. This area and Puglia generally is worth visiting before the July/August invasion.
