What a find! Had difficulty finding this we gave up one day. However, in one of our walkabouts, we somehow find ourselves lost around this area and found this!Entrance is free, just sign in. The place is a replica of Christ Sepulchre in Jerusalem and it allowed pilgrims in the old days who were unable to travel to the Holy Land during the Crusades to feel a part of it albeit its authenticity.Pity that the murals are almost unrecognisable and fallen into disarray bearing in mind though the age of the artefacts.One of the more interesting archeological sites in Brindisi!

Very interesting, historical and pretty unique. You can find lots of things worthy of a photo or two. They have an evening tour which is really cool.

We walked from the Columns marking the beginning/end (depending on your point of view) of the Appian Way to this lovely chapel. Few realize that it is an intentional clone, more or less (but in miniature) of The Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. The Norman Portico is ornamented with relief and framed by a pair of felines, each supporting a single column. The interior's circular space is punctuated by columns and the walls contain an array of frescoes in various states of preservation. Each of the frescoes is labeled in Italian and English with extensive texts arranged on stands book-like so that the visitor can understand exactly what is being represented.

Is is by far favorite place it Brindisi because it's so small and hidden but full of history and mystery. It has plenty of symbols from the knights Templar but also in the center there is hole to see down to the Roman house that was originally on the sight. The frescos are interesting and the arcs all crooked to the point that you wonder what in the world were they thinking when they made it. And that's the thing I feel like there is still a lot we really don't know about it.

Had been to the Tempio many years ago and went back to take some friends. The new lighting in the evening and opening hours (9-21 all day, Saturday 9-23, closed on Mondays) meant we could enjoy the visit at night. It was amazing and the guide, Giulio, really insightful and passionate! I knew the place but was really impressed as if it was my first visit. Really exciting to hear about the Brindisi city hall plans for future improvements! A MUST for anyone visiting Brindisi

Il tempio sorge al centro della cittadina. Si respira un'aria rilassante e tranquilla. All'interno affreschi dall'ottima fattura completano e arredo essenziale. Consiglio la visita

Het kan ook te weinig zijn. Als alle aanwijzingen bijna verdwenen zijn kun je zeggen dat het er niet meer is. Met heel veel fantasie kun je kleuren en fresco's ontwaren. De stilte en de verende vloer zijn mooi. Het is te weinig om voor om te lopen. Niet doen!

Piccolo, piccolissimo tempio nel cuore della città di Brindisi.Molto tranquillo da visitare, al suo interno è ancora possibile ammirare magnifici affreschi risalenti al XI secolo.

Domenica pomeriggio. Clima ottimale. Visita del centro storicoe passeggiata digerente del dopo pranzo. Io brindisino, mia moglie calabrese. Decidiamo di passare dal Tempio perché fosse visto e raccontato una volta per tutte ad un autoctono come me (che si sta informando sulle meraviglie nascoste ed a cielo aperto di Brindisi) e ad una ragazza di Altomonte (CS) come mia moglie che si è trasferita a Brindisi due anni fa e sta imparando ad amarla come una seconda mamma. Ci accoglie un custode storico della struttura che ci sorride ed inizia a comprendere che i sottoscritti amano l'informazione e la cultura. Lui si chiama Giulio, ci dona delle carte geografiche del territorio, ma quando noi chiediamo una brochure riguardante la storia del Tempio, ci risponde che sono terminate, forse per non dire che non sono mai state stampate! Calma è solo una supposizione. Affascinante l'interno, i progetti futuri di ampliarne l'area, anche nella domus romanica posta al di sotto, non ancora accessibile. Tutto è quasi straordinariamente intatto, anche i segni lasciati dai templari e dai normanni. Giunoniche le colonne, belle in tutti gli stili, anche se furono materiale di risulta dell'epoca. Siamo nell'anno 1000. Sulle pareti ci sono affreschi vari di epoche e civiltà diverse che si sono succedute in città nel corso dei secoli. Talvolta è visibile il primo affresco, quasi cancellato interamente per la rappresentazione dell'altro in rilievo. Il tempio fu edificato molto somigliante al tempio di San Giovanni a Gerusalemme perché i crociati che partivano da Brindisi erano più comodi nel pregare forse per l'ultima volta direttamente su Brindisi. Stupendo e intatto, peccato sia quasi nascosto, addossato a case attuali dalle quali stendono i panni e nell'area d'accesso al Tempio non è una bella immagine. Bisognerebbe aprire l'accesso che guarda ad Oriente, così come fu ai tempi. Fermatevi col custode Giulio a scovare i segnali pagani e religiosi dei crociati e di chi ebbe l'onore di pregare li. I leoni ed il toro sono gli animali che simboleggiano il bene ed il male. È pieno di riferimenti a riguardo ed anche qualche associazione col Re Salomone. Un pezzo di Terra Santa a Brindisi é una meraviglia da salvaguardare nei prossimi secoli. Mi appello alle amministrazioni, fate qualcosa perché tutta questa bellezza non faccia la fine dei monumenti che non siamo riusciti a gestire. Da vedere! Da vivere!
