The castle itself is empty but now used for debates, discussions and literature meetings. We were on an organised tour so had a guide to explain the history of the castle. If you go on your own there is plenty of information you can find, there is a book shop in the ticket office. The castle is well maintained and very clean. There is an entrance fee of 3 euro pp.

We visited the castle with my wife and 3 kids just before it got closed and it was completely empty so we had a great fun going through all the rooms and courtyards. That day it was a great sunny weather and the interiors were nicely illuminated by the sunset.

We visited while a literature symposium of some sort was underway... Nice that the castle is in use, but it was unclear where we could and could not enter. Lovely to stand in the front rooms and hear the sea lapping at the stone. Worth it if you happen to be in Trani

Well maintained castle but spartan interior. The roof is not accessible to the public. Lovely square, large rooms and interesting architectural features.

The castle is well-renovated, and looks forbidding with its square towers. Old moat is lush with palm trees. Entry costs 5 EUR...but there is nothing to see inside: One cannot access the rampart or the towers to look over the city or to the see - what a disappointment! All the medieval history is gone (as it was later transformed to a prison and then renovated in a hygienic fashion). The museum itself has very few and boring items, and cannot really bring the castle's history to life. But it seems that people come to Trani to go out and eat seafood, not to study history or arts.

While in Trani, we visited the castello di Trani from where you get a nice view of the town and the sea.

This is an impressive building that has had a lot of time and money spent on it to completely restore. Its cheap and worth a look round. Essentially its approach to tourism is underdeveloped.

Trani could allegedly be called the most beautiful and unforgettable place on the Apuglian coast. This is a town one wishes to be forever . . .

The carvings outside were worn down but you could still see how intricate and unusual they were. We could not go inside as they were having a wedding.
