I hiked up the mountain from Gaetavecchia with my mother, and came down via the Sanctuary. There are a lot of great aspects to this park. You pass through both modern and ancient history, geographic wonders, and natural beauty. There are a number of spectacular views of the sea, of Gaetavecchia, and of Elena (the modern expansion of the city, once a separate town of the aforementioned name). The Mausoleum at the top is a so-so visit; it might be better to visit on weekends, when the place is open, and you can go in.The one down side is that the place needs better service. I happened to ask a park ranger if there was a bathroom, and he said there was, but that it was open only on weekends, when they open the museum. I passed a port-a-potty (or whatever they're called) and managed to notice there was no paper before I tried using it. Once I arrived at the sanctuary, I also discovered that there was no paper in their toilets, either. The port-a-potty I kind of understand, and I don't mind paying for the paper at the sanctuary (0.25€ for a pack of facial tissue which serves OK as toilet paper) but I suspect some people might appreciate a warning sign before finding themselves in dire straits. It took us several hours to go up & down. Note that there is no fee unless you want to enter some of the sanctuary's attractions, which carry a modest fee (1€ per adult). They're definitely worth the fee.

It's a good place to climb on. From here you can see excellent city- and seaview, can take good shoots. Better to go on a mountain early morning or in the evening - at this time the sun don't shines so bright and it's not so hot here

Enjoy a stupendous view of Gaeta and see ancient history. Split Mountain offers great photo opportunities, so take a camera.

This site was gorgeous. I was having back issues so I didn't attempt the climb down the steps thru the split. But the church at the top was charming and the legend behind the split is amazing. Saw the split from the top of the mountain and also from a boat. For those who don't know the story, legend had it that when Christ died on the cross, there was an eearthquake in Gaeta that split the mountain n half. Well worth a visit.

We made a special stop in Gaeta to see this attraction. The entrance to see Turk's Grotto was closed the hour that we went, so we went for a quick hike up the Montagna Spaccata trail. We did not go very far, and it was nice to see the views below, but what we saw was not that impressive compared to the beauty we experienced in other parts of Italy. Perhaps a longer hike would have been more fruitful.Once the entrance opened, we paid 1 Euro each and walked down the many steps to see Turks Grotto, at least a hundred I believe. You may want to bring some bug spray for the visit. It was very nice and an interesting geological formation, but seemed to be a bit uneventful once we were there for a little while. Lots of steps again walking up with an interesting view of the cave below. I am glad that I saw it, but I'm not sure it was worth a special stop since it took time away from other sights we would have had more time to visit. To the right of the church that is in front of the entrance, there are bathrooms.I think if I didn't know it was there, and I stumbled upon it, I would be amazed by it. But, since I had a high expectation of the sight, it didn't deliver exactly what I wanted, but I enjoyed the unique nature of the visit. Something I had never seen before.

This is really nice place whit perfect landscapes! You can also visit Grotta del Turco here or try freeclibing or diving as well. But for me was best that surroundings! Recommend to visit.

I agree with recent reviews: This is a place worth looking at. The 1 euro entrance fee for the Grotto del Turko is a valuable investment. I didn' like the many gift shops at the entrance selling nonsense, On the way to the Montagna Spaccata there's a nice overlook of Serapo beach, the main beach of Gaeta. Also consider to take Montagna Spaccata as a starting point for a hike over the mountain to the old town of Gaeta. Takes about 1-2 hours.
