The building itself is great, a real eye catcher when you enter the square. We did go and see the museum. Some nice paintings and Marquette of well known buildings. Only when you visit the museum, you can also make pictures out off the window of the front of the building. You get a great view of the square from up there. We have seen better museums, but it is not bad.

We were in Pistoia for a day trip from Lucca, and after the Duomo we were quite taken with the building, the Palazzo del Commune, that houses the Museo Civico in the same piazza. The building itself is stunning, and we wanted to see the inside so we decided to spend some time in the museum. We were pleasantly suprised! There are no blockbusters here, but there is an intelligent and well-displayed installation of paintings (also some sculpture) that covers several centuries of Italian art, mostly by Tuscan painters. The didactic materials were in Italian, of course, but also in English, extremely well done, displayed in context, and very relevant to the art we were seeing. We enjoyed the fact that we were able to really see the paintings due to the excellent lighting and the way in which they were hung or mounted. In addition, and also a pleasant surprise, was the extremely helpful and accommodating staff, one of whom even recommended the restaurant where we decided to have lunch. And it, too, was a pleasant surprise.

Not the Uffizi, but this small museum owns a rare Coppo di Marcobaldo, one of the earliest painters to adapt the style of Byzantine art. It's remarkable. See it if you can avoid Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays when they are closed.

This seems to be a museum of leftovers. Some decent Jesus & Maria's on the ground floor. Do check out St. John making a heavy metal 'death wish' hand gesture on the first triptych, right after the entrance. Hilarious portrays on the third floor: ugly women, fat men, even a smiling man with bunny teeth. Overall: depressing.

Ci siamo stati senza guida in occasione dei musei aperti, senza pagare. Il palazzo è bello e di solito è aperta anche la sala consiliare con arredi in legno scolpito e si può dare una sbirciatina.le opere sono interessanti, sia quelle di arte sacra sia i quadri ad argomento storico; c'è anche oggettistica. nell'ultimo piano si trova arte e architettura del novecento.

Ci sono stata per vedere la mostra temporanea Caravaggio, Tiepolo, Bellini, dalla quale mi attendevo di piu' (un' opera per ciascuno di questi grandi nomi e parecchi quadri di illustri sconosciuti...).Il palazzo invece merita sicuramente una visita, sia per l' architettura sia per il museo che contiene come mostra permanente un interi piano dedicato a Filippo e Filippino Lippi.

No, dico, ho sentito bene????Guide simpaticissime, si possono fare foto senza flash - come è giusto che sia! - e una collezione di 200 opere su tre piani, una più bella dell'altra, dal 13° al 19° Secolo!Giù il cappello a chiunque l'abbia allestito.Rinunciate a vedere altre cose, ma andate assolutamente al Museo Civico, è impossibile restare delusi. Perdersi il museo civico è un autentico peccato, non solo per le sue opere d'arte ma anche per le guide che sono simpatiche, preparate e vi accompagnano per buona parte della visita, anche nel percorso di arte contemporanea.

Museo molto interessante con bellissimi quadri ben conservati. La collezione Puccini è, a mio avviso, la più bella di tutte. Peccato che sia poco conosciuto, soprattutto dai Pistoiesi.

Le collezioni artistiche aiutano a scoprire il percorso culturale della città e dei suoi concittadini più illustri. Il personale del museo, oltre che gentile, mostra un'ottima preparazione nell'accoglienza.
