We visited two necropoli which were interesting and well contextualised in the abundance of informative panels in the park. Also really nice walking routes. We did not visit the acropolis at Populonia as it was impossible to park there. For miles ahead the windy road was lined with maybe a hundred cars.

With big waves - for a change in Tuscany. Its quite easy to park Better go there two hours before sunset when the sun is less agressive. Decent Pizzeria next to the parking. Good for families

We visited Baratti Bay on several occasions in June 2013 whilst staying at Park Albatross and each time loved the beach and atmosphere. A highlight for us was one night when we went there to watch the sunset. It was magical!

Baratti is a lovely bay with great swimming & impressive umbrella pine trees. The medieval village of Populonia is well worth a visit. Climb up the tower for amazing views over Baratti & along the coast. The Etruscan Museum is also worth a visit.Have yet to visit the necroplis & acropolis archaeological sites.

I love archaeological digs! I gladly pay the hefty charges because I understand the costs of finding and preserving. I expect clarity and detailed information. At the acropolis, I saw the numerous finds, but the explanations were virtually worthless. At the necropolis, it was easier to understand what you saw, but even there, the explanations were sadly lacking. It was our fortune to encounter two groups of archaeologists working near one another. It was our informal conversations with them that brought the site to life. We deserved a lot more for the high price we gladly paid. Because of the poor delivery of information, I found this one of the worst archaeological sites I have ever visited - despite the huge quantity of material on display. This site site should rate 4-5 points.

Populonia was an Etruscan city, famous in the ancient world for working and trading in iron. The village, situated on top of a hill and surrounded by the sea, has a fascination all its own.Inside medieval walls built to defend against pirate attacks, and a fortress which dates to the beginning of the XV century, are paved streets, little shops and a private museum of Etruscan and Roman artefacts found in the surrounding area and the sea.A panoramic road offering wonderful views connects Populonia with the Gulf of Baratti where there are numerous reminders of Etruscan times. The 80 hectare archaeological park, which can be visited along organised routes, combines history and archaeology in a beautiful, unspoilt natural setting. The San Cerbone monumental necropolis, the only one built near the sea, the remains of metalworking sites, the Cave necropolis and ancient stone quarries are of great interest.

Our first stop was an ancient Etruscan town called Populonia on the Golfo di Baratti, it was beautiful and the clouds had completely cleared up. We visited some Etruscan Necropolis, which were the ancient buried sites of many families, and located on the Mediterranean. After telling us all about the way these Italian ancestors lived Fabrizio brought us to the top of the mountain where we had magnificent views of the sea and surrounding Islands. He brought us to an ancient fortress and we had the whole place to ourselves. One of our friends had a bum knee and Fabrizio was able to drive to the top and drop us off. Then he took it upon himself to make sure she walked safely and comfortably, it was very precious to see him walking her around.Next, we drove to Campiglia Marittima, another ancient village very close to Grosseto and Populonia where we visited an old fortress, and we had to walk up a steep hill to the top to get a 360 view of the area. Some of us pooped out halfway up but Fabrizio took all of our cameras and ran up that steep hill so he could take pictures for us. Once again he walked our friend up and down with so much care, she felt very safe and well cared for.

Il parco si percorre in trekking. Consigliate scarpe adatte e zainetto.
