I had no idea what to expect but as my friend and I climbed the long flight of steps in Agropoli, the charm increased with each step. We felt like we were in a movie as we passed by old doors each with their own unique character, beautiful flowers, and charming terraces which overlooked the bright blue water. We were there on a warm October day and were pleasantly surprised to find we were the only ones making this fun climb. Closer to the castle, we were unsure of our next turn and were graciously guided by an older towns lady. I wondered how many times over the years that kind old lady had given those same directions to confused tourists. The journey was worth the steps because at the top was an amazing view of the bay, lovely flower boxes, and an opportunity to explore this well maintained castle and grounds. As we headed down to our original point of departure, we were able to grab an ice cold drink and one last photo of this pretty town. This was an unexpectedly fun day.

A challenging walk from the town up to the castle but definitely worth it. There are superb views over the town and nearby hills and also over the sea. As it was winter no shops were open but there were plenty of people around. Visitors to Agropoli should not miss out on going here.

It is quite a walk up steps from the new town up to the the old part of Agropoli but worth it. The views below of the port and coastline are spectacular. A monumental gateway leads you to narrow alleyways and cobbled streets and finally to the castle. Entrance is free, they now hold performances there and have exhibitions. On the way down you can stop and relax in one of the many bars or restaurants in the new town.

This old town of Agropoli is clustered around the hilltop castle. It has many narrow winding streets that contain unique alleys and beautiful tiny gardens. There are also tiny bars, galleries and shops that you come upon unexpectedly. Wonderful cafes and restaurants with views overlooking the beautiful Tyrrhenian Sea provide a place to sit and relax.

Passing under a medieval gateway arch and climbing up through a maze of narrow cobbled streets and alleyways will bring you finally to the castle itself, dominating the top of the steep, rocky promontory. The castle building itself has been recently restored and is used for shows and exhibitions however the towers offer a wonderful walkway along the parapets with breathtakingly spectacular views around the bay to both north and south - with no entry charge.

It was very warm so we took a taxi from La Darsena hotel and walked back. The taxi cost 10 euros for 4 of us. The whole place was fabulous and the view from the top was excellent. Definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful medieval village of Agropoli, highly recommend to visit in the evening and possibly during the summer season. Personally it was a great experience and I have great memories of the wonderful panorama climbing the stairs leading to the door of what was once a fortress. Breathtaking views and idyllic atmosphere, this village along many streets, lovely restaurants where you would want to sit down and try the cuisine of each of them. Very busy but to be honest one of the most beautiful places in the area, second only to the Amalfi Coast.

The ancient "borgo" of Agropoli, perched on a hill, is small in relation to the extension of ugly modern part of the town. Here the "gentrification" has come rather late: the houses have long been neglected or abandoned. But now the improvement process is completed, and the final push was given by the City council, that purchased and restored the castle on the top (a few years ago). A restaurant on the edge of the "borgo" succeeds to make it more lively, by the side of the sea, the views are picturesque.
