Interesting place and very extraordinary atmosphere, however I wouldn't count on seeing many frescos as they hardly survived. Also bring a map with you - all these churches are hard to find.

There are a lot of Chiesa in Matera (I think our guide said more than 147). This particular one had been a church that was then turned into a private residence. Remnants of the frescoes that once adorned it remained, including some portions that were reused in the construction of living spaces after the church ceased being a church. Interesting for both its history and uses.

Interesting to see a real cave church. It has been in use for a thousand years and have a great story to tell. Nice frescoes, the ones that are still there.

A trip to Matera MUST include a visit to this beautiful "church" dating back to the 1st C AD. The frescos are still fresh looking, the result of meticulous restoration.

This cathedral is only open when mass is to be celebrated. We were there on a Sunday and so had the opportunity to go inside to view impressive paintings and ornate wall and ceiling decorations.

le chiese rupestri di Matera sono davvero particolari. si paga l'ingresso in tutte, Ci sono le offerte per due-tre chiese. dai 3 ai 6 euro. La visita è indicata per chi non ha problemi di locomozione perchè ci si arrampica tra i sassi.

Abbiamo visitato questa chiesa per un biglietto cumulativo acquistato in un'altra delle numerose chiese rupestri di Matera ; non è possibile visitarle tutte, ma merita la visita ad alcune di loro e una è questa. Utilizzata fino al 1960 come abitazione ( 2 delle 3 navate), nel suo interno sono presenti numerosi affreschi risalenti al 1200-1700, periodo in cui la chiesa fu utilizzata dalle monache benedettine. Particolare della santa un pò macabro: nel calice che regge in mano sono contenuti gli occhi!

Chiesa nelle rocce, molto suggestive, c e un abbonamento per vederne più di una, ma 2 gia son tante, da vedere casa grotta 2 eur con spiegazione, ciao

bella chiesa rupestre da visitare, a mio parere molto piccola. Se dovessi sceglierne una da visitare probabilmente non sceglierei questa anche se a prima vista sembrerà amore. Personale all'ingresso molto gentile e disponibile.
