Interesting monument for 99 Kings that ruled in this region. One fountain represents one head of the a King. The water from fountains are not for drinking.

Great little spot that is quite different. Go and count the actual spouts then see if you can find the missing ones (there are 99!)...

This lovely place is tricky to find but worth a visit. The city is still under a state of disrepair from the earthquake and being at the fountain, which is completely restored, is humbling. It is a real testament to the people of the town and how they rebound from disaster. it's a peaceful place, historical and a definite landmark amongst a city still healing. In the background of the image I posted there is a building with the walls shored, which is relatively common still. Not much else around the area but if you appreciate this type of sight seeing you should visit.

Steeped in history and tradition, this is one of the iconic attractions in L'Aquila which cannot be missed. You can take photos from any angle or light and it will be something beautiful to share!

A beautiful sight to see, initially built in 1272. It's mesmerizing to see so many faces made out of stone; faces of men, women, warriors and animals.

We were told to check out the 99 fountains and it was pretty cool to see. It's located in a unusual place but we found it. It makes for a neat photo op. If you are in L'Aquila I would recommend stopping by for a visit. There is no charge to see it.

The Eagle (l'aquila) is a name honouring the monarch of the skies. It is also the name of a city that has endured troubled and adventurous existence for many centuries. It is also known as "The city of 99".... said to have 99 squares,99 churches,99 fountains.... all of which sprang from a decision to build a great fountain with 99 spouts. from each unusual stonr spout,there emerges something far more important than the life-giving liquid.... what sprouts is life-giving solidarity of the unification of numerous local castles- 99 of them. The city's loyalty to the house of Anjou earned it many honours and rewards,while the production of saffron,a highly prized spice,used both for cooking and dyeing, gave it an important commercial position. Give or take a couple of earthquakes,and this city with its name derived from the humble village of Acculi- which stood on this site in ancient times- or from the emblem of the Imperial House of Swabia, takes pride in seeing the eagle soar,lord of the winds and the storm.

after earthquake this fontaine was reconstructed first - looks very nice now and worth to visit and see.

This is an unusual sort of place, but worth a visit if you are in L'Aquila. The kids have lots of fun trying to count the cannelle correctly!

Not easy to find as directions are a bit confusing but worth seeing. Near by the fountain you have two good restaurants. Not easy to park.
