A visit to this temple of speed was the highlight of my solo motorcycle tour of Europe. The circuit didn't open to the public until 5pm and the day was beautifully sunny. Then at 4pm it chucked it down. The circuit was left water logged. But I didn't let that put me off. I paid for three laps and headed out. At every opportunity my back tyre would come around to say hello. Coupled with the fact that there are no corner signs or distance markers on the circuit made for a very interesting few laps. Circuit knowledge is definitely the key here. The only reason I am not giving the circuit 5 stars is because of the rain. Apart from that everything at the circuit is organised with typical German efficiency.

I was very much along for the ride at the 'Ring, as it was my travel companion's 50th birthday present to himself. I had no interest in driving, so rode along as co-driver and, while I'm not an adrenaline junkie or speed freak, it was an incredible experience. We were there immediately after the track re-opened after a 24-hour closure for a bicycle race, so there was less traffic than usual. I think my friend would have liked more vehicles to pass, but it did cut down on the wait times to get on the track. It's a very efficient system, though. Your laps are put on a card which you swipe for entry, then a quick drive past a marshall who takes a glance at your vehicle and (hopefully) waves you through. We attached our GoPro camera to the inside of the windshield, and they had no problem with that. One thing to keep in mind - if you suffer from motion sickness, the quick turns and elevation changes might sideline you. I don't suffer from motion sickness and still only lasted two laps. Much as I wish I'd been able to ride along the whole time, the parking lot was busy and interesting enough to keep me occupied waiting for my friend to get back from his latest lap. (It's not like it was a long wait, anyway. His average lap time was under 10:30.) The best part was seeing a family of four pull in in a Volvo station wagon, all grinning ear to ear. Also keep in mind that this has the potential to be an expensive outing - not only potential damages to your car, but say, for example, you take out a guardrail. You're on the hook for its replacement. They cost 250 euros a metre, and it comes in four metre lengths. Same goes for if you need the wrecker, and if you happen to spill oil on the track, you're paying for the cleanup, too. Also, your vehicle insurance is void. That's not to say it's not worth taking the chance. Just be aware the chance is there. And go out and have fun. (Here's us, doing just that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esFaO54-Y9E)If you're coming from afar, or you want a zippier car than your own, RSR is the place to deal with. We rented a vehicle from them, which got us a professional driver in the passenger seat, talking my friend through his first lap. They also took care of details like the lap card and permit. Definitely worth checking them out.

Drove one lap on the 'Ring in my rental Renault with cases of Mosel wine clanking in the trunk. Then emptied the trunk and drove 2 more laps at speed. Awesome place but scary. Too many motorcyclists drinking schnapps before hitting the track...

Haven't experienced the green hell - aka Nurburgring? It is highly addictive, and all petrol heads must experience it at leas once.

Amazing track, great views, great crowds. The only thing bad about it is that I can not live next to the track. Will return as soon as possible.Save the Ring

Basically the most awesome place on the face of the earth. There is something to see here every day of the week if you are into cars. There isn't a day when you won't see an example of almost every supercar on the planet being driven hard. (some don't make it round sadly)

We had been dreaming of driving the Nurburgring for some years before we decided to really go do it. After some internet searching we contact Karl Chandeck at TrackTime Nurburg. These guys offer some great BMW track cars, which have been completely built up for driving the Nurburgring. Karl helped us with choosing a good hotel and recommended great places to eat and arranged for us to participate in a Nurburgring Trackday. When we got to the track the cars were waiting for us ready to go. Everything was taken care of.The guys at TrackTime really know their business. The cars were fantastic and the driver tuition was very professional. Karl helped us to get to know the track explaining all the little ins and outs, what to look out for, what to do and what not.It was an awesome experience! We will definitely book with TrackTime Nurburg again. If you want to drive this spectacular track in a real driving machine like their BMW E36 tracktools than we certainly recommend you contact these folks.

What can I say, it's arguably the top track in the world! Just allow plenty of time if you drive on a weekend, as accidents are common and they shut down the track for an hour or two each time one occurs.

First visit and unfortunately couldn't organise a drive of the track due to a misunderstanding with a booking with a track day the following day but my BMW taxi ride was still in place and I'll be back to drive next year!An amazing track which you have to drive or be driven around to appreciate.
