Lovely church architecture. It was empty when we got there and actually we just got lost and happen to be looking for a resto when we bumped into this. It's well kept and something unusual to see.

A church which apparently actually began in the 12th century but was built on or very near the site of a 6th century church that it effectly replaced. It dominates the nearby skyline and can be seen shortly after leaving Burg Eltz, or of course on the way. The interior is very typical with one nice exception, the walls and some parts of the church seem to have or have been kept painted as was the style during the Middle Ages. Often churches of this time are seen with just the gray "boring" rock look and are missing the painted and decorated look which was there. This church is somewhere in between as it has some areas decorated and painted but is not "over the top" at all. There are of course many of the notables of the area buried in the floor as is typical. A very interesting part is a carved burial scene of Christ which is nearly if not life sized and well done on the whole. Also are several wall fresco's and a stunning alter of carved wood with a great deal of gilt applied.When in the area, well worth the stop off. Parking is easy and there appears to be a quite good couple of places to eat within easy walking distance. So if making a journey to or from Burg Eltz this would a wonderful stop, with potential for culture and a bit of refreshments (before or after).

The massive tower can be seen from afar and dominates the square. Opened every day free of charge. Built 12th-13th century, also called Münster Church, its exterior resembles a stronghold. Interior: 16th century Antwerp Retable as high altar. In the Northern transept the Holy Tomb from 1500 depicting the Entombment of Christ, with seven life-size statues made from Tuff, above those Christ as a man of Sorrows between four Angels with the Arma Christi, all under a high canopy. 13th Century eight feet tall painting of St. Christopher with the child of God at his left arm. Furthermore: old murals, Eltze graves, artistic epitaphs of couple Cuno von Eltz and Ella von Esch, two relief plaques made of Basalt lava, marble tomb of Nikolaus von Eltz and his wife Maria von Hears, and a marble monument of their son Johann Wilhelm Antonius Bertramus Herr zu Eltz, Domherr ofTrier. Этот Сабор в очень маленьком городке, по меркам этого места - это очень большое и древнее сооружение. Нашему туристу туда ехать специально не стоит, но проезжая мимо зайдите.

Неожиданно большая церковь для такого небольшого городка. Достаточно живописная, но никакой особенной красоты в ней нет. Рекомендую остановиться по пути в замок Эльтц например. По моему мнению, специально ради этой церкви ехать сюда не стоит.
