We were able to visit this most unique church in "the middle of nowhere". Of course, most small villages have bigger churches than you would expect, but the pinks and blues of this church surprised us. Gorgeous! Look carefully all around, on the walls and ceilings, and you'll find birds, nests, squirrels-all sculpture but very lifelike.

A baroque concert was going to be given there a few days later, and I'm only sorry that I wasn't able to go. Wander round enjoying the silence and the light, gazing up into the heaven of the ceiling, noticing one detail after another, and when eventually you leave, go across the road and sit in the garden of the Cafe Schmid for a while contemplating the exterior too. I believe concerts are quite frequently held in the church. Bad Schussenried Tourist Information Office should have details.

Steinhaiusen is called the "world's most beautiful village church" and was designed by the Zimmermann brothers who are famous for their churches. Just a lovely small church of innovative design. For children, it's fun for them to find the various sculptured small animals. Just one of the many excellent Baroque churches of the Upper Swabian Baroque Route.

Smaller baroqueish church similar in design to Ottobeuren, Zwiefalten, et. al. It's just smaller, and since it's located in a village of a couple hundred people, I guess it might qualify. If you're driving by, stop and take a 10 minute look, but definitely not going out of the way for.

In einem kleinen Dorf in der Nähe von Bad Schussenried steht die Wallfahrtskirche "Unser lieben Frau". Sie ragt majestetisch über den kleinen Ort. Wenn man durch die Tür den Innenraum betritt, fällt auf, dass das Barockjuwel einen hellen Innenraum hat, die die vielen Verzierungen und Deckenfresken schön zur Geltung kommen lassen. Die Brüder Zimmermann haben ein imposantes Werk geschaffen. Dominikus hat die Kirche erbaut, der Bruder Baptist hat die einmaligen Deckengemälde gestaltet, wobei er seinen Bruder und dessen Pferd sehr subtil in ein Deckengemälde eingearbeitet hat. Unbedingt sehenswert!

Diese - auch als die schönste Dorfkirche Deutschlands bekannte - Kirche ist unbedingt einen Besuch wert. Man beachte die Tiere in den oberen Fensterbögen.... Specht, Ameise... hier hat der Erbauer Claudius Zimmermann ein paar "Spitzen" eingebaut....

Wir waren in Biberach zu Gast und erfuhren von dieser Kirche,die ja angeblich die schönste Dorfkirche der Welt sein soll...nun ja,das klang doch schon etwas übertrieben.Nichtsdestotrotz haben wir die Kirche besucht und ich denke,das ist sowohl im Winter als auch im Sommer und den anderen Zeiten ein lohnenswertes Ziel,welches man durchaus in seine Planung aufnehmen sollte,wenn man gerade schon mal in der Gegend ist.Für das kleine Dorf Steinhausen ist das wahrlich eine stattliche Kirche mit einem hohen,schönen Turm und sowohl äusserlich,wie auch innen wirklich schön anzusehen und ein fotogenes Ausflugsziel.In der Weihnachtszeit auch mit schönem Krippenschmuck vor dem Altar.Wie wir mitbekommen haben gibt es auch zeitweise die Möglichkeit an Führungen teilzunehmen,aber alles relevante an Unterlagen ist auch in der Kirche selbst zu bekommen.
