I love this town, it is full of charm, character and is just so small and quaint I don't know who wouldn't love visiting it! Beautiful views of the region await those who want to walk up the tower stairs to the top, but for those who don't, wandering the tiny streets of this small village are just as charming, bringing one back to an authentic Medieval German town. This village is perfect combined with a visit to the two castle ruins right across the valley/river from Dilsberg. Here is the link to my blog post on Dilsberg: http://hiddeningermany.blogspot.ca/2012/07/burg-dilsberg.htmlAnd here is the link to the three ruins across the river from Dilsberg, which are equally as stunning to visit: http://hiddeningermany.blogspot.ca/2011/06/schwalbennest-and-alt-schadeck-ruins.html

Dilsberg is never been conquered. No wonder, looking at the steep hill, the vast walls. It is quite charming ! When you enter it through the old gates, there is a youth hostel to the left, a lovely pottery and a "must go to" chocolaterie to the right. Had the best hot chocolate I ever tried.

Had a fun walk together with my partner up to the town of Dilsberg. Lovely walk through the forest, about an hour of walking up from the dam. Old fort and town at the top. Had a chocolate milkshake at the local chocolatier boutique. This put the cherry on top to our fun hike. Would recommend as an activity after you spent some time in Heidelberg. Easy access to start of track by bus.

Dilsberg is a fortified hilltop town with a castle overlooking a bend in the Neckar a few km outside Neckargemund. The town is quite small (parking available just below the town gate - no traffic in the citadel) with few facilities (well maintained with much half-timbering), but offers some breathtaking views over the Neckar valley (a good view from the church's graveyard!). The castle is largely a ruin (2 Euro entrance, gift kiosk, toilets), but by climbing the main tower and walking along the curtain wall, you will get one of the best views around. Worth a detour and possibly worth seeing the entrance to the underground gallery/well (gated) hidden away in the Schlossgarten. Unusual.

Great place for a short Picnic trip. View from castle top can be breathtaking. A very nice small town with few restaurants and friendly people.

The views from the castle wall top are fantastic, for a small 2 euro fee. The weather was perfect the day I went and I'm sure that helped with the overall experience. There are other castle ruins visible across the river. The town itself is quaint and quiet.

If it isn't a clear day don't go for the views from the top. A small old village with a couple of bar / restaurants and a castle. The views of the surrounding Neckar are superb. Those in a wheelchair or with bad mobility will struggle to get around.

If you're in Heidelberg and have some extra time you should visit Dilsberg. It is a quaint town, small, with narrow roads, full of beauty shown in their buildings and houses. There is little else to do, since it's a small town, but you can enjoy some warm chocolate and cake at the little restaurant (the owner has been featured in books). In winter I recommend you come well covered, it is very cold, but worth the short trip from Heidelberg.

Dilsberg is definitely worth visiting for those in the area. This cute little village is located on top of a hill close to Heidelberg and offers cobble-stoned little streets, small restaurants, shops, and an old castle ruin. The castle ruin visit will allow the visitor a wonderful view over the Neckar Valley and beyond. A must-visit is the little Chocolaterie im Gasthaus zur Burg where the guest will appreciate attention to detail and will be able to enjoy wonderfully home-baked goods in addition to out-of-this-world chocolate, and other soul-warming dishes.

We took the Rail/bus from Heidelberg to this amazing little village on the top of a hill near the Neckar River. Old castle ruins at the top provide a great view of the valley below. Lovely fall colors and narrow hillside streets of cobble-stone created a wonderful atmosphere for enjoying the view or some chocolate at the Chocolaterie where the sign says: " Das Beste Zum SchuluB" :)
