This car is not very well known except by aficionados. It is interesting to see its evolution especially in wartime. Now when you read a book and they mention Maybach you can picture it.

In terms of presentation this collection is difficult to beat. There might not be hundreds of vehicles but being a single brand museum that to all intents and purposes ended car production in the early fifties and those cars being of the expensive kind - well there's not a huge number to start with! It is expensive and a photo permit on top makes it 11 euros but the building and displays are immaculate - they are not expecting the hoipoloi who go to even the Mercedes museum to roll up here. A must is a visit to the toilets - unbelievable!

The museum claims to have ten percent of the Maybachs in the world. I believe this because I do not recall ever being this close to one before and I am sure I have not seen so many in one place. It is a very well presented museum and very classy. They also have an exhibit of motorcycles/bicycles that were once produced at that location. I would recommend this for any car or mechanical buffs or if you are in the area and just looking for something neat to see.

It could be considered a little unfair to compare the private collection for Maybach-Fahrzeuge Museum to say the behemoth motor museums such as Mercedes in Stuttgart, the Mulhouse or Turin museum, purely based on their similar admission prices. If 10% of all the worlds remaing Maybachs are in one location, this easily justifies the admission price, after all how offen do you see a 1920 - 40's Maybach gliding down your street? Some vehicles are in various states of condition, but two standouts are located as you enter the museum, showing in all their glory how achingly beautiful these cars are, compared to their contemporaries, also on display is a current Maybach. The other side of the beautifully renovated building is for the display of motor and push bikes, which were constructed in this building. The cafe was not open, when we visited. Free parking is available across the road. The toilet walls are covered with early Maybach photos with the hand dryers fashioned into car exhaust systems, great idea in a motoring museum. A worthwhile stop, if you are interested in older, rare motor vehicles.

If you love autos and auto mechanics, this place is for you. When you look at the technology that the Maybach automobile had for its time, it will amaze you. Today we use computers to design nearly everything, and when you see what was done with slide rules and mechanical drafting, you will be impressed. Just like the pristine reputation of the Maybach auto, the display of the Maybach vehicles is pristine, these autos are in great condition allowing you to see the details of the Maybach designs. There is also a section of the museum dedicated to the bicycles that use to be manufactured at the site of the museum. Well worth the visit as well as seeing the old town of Neumarkt in der Oberfalz.

I'm a "car guy", but not a fan of the big, German 1930s autos, like Maybachs. However, this private museum, in a former motorcycle factory, had many interesting displays including ones of cars other than Maybachs, engines, WWII vehicles, and of course, a large motorcycle collection. The village in which it is located, Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, (easy 20 minute train ride south-east from Nurnberg's Hauptbahnhof) is also worth a nice walk around with a very good central shopping district, 5 minute walk from the museum.

This is a beautiful museum with displays that are well laid out. For me, this would be rated as an outstanding exhibit, as I spent half a day here. However, I love antique cars. Others will find this only mildly interesting. Maybach was a very high-end luxury car with peak production in the 1920s and 1930s. Not that many were built. This museum has the largest collection of remaining Maybach automobiles in the world - which is still not that many (about 20?) but enough to occupy a full morning for me. My understanding is that the museum building occupies part of the actual factory where the Maybachs were built. In addition to cars, there are exhibits of Maybach sales brochures and a display about how the factory developed through time, including some sobering pictures of what the area looked like immediately after World War II. Other things were also manufactured here - engines, as well as bicycles and motorbikes. Hence there are also displays of bicycles and motorbikes, and some films about the zeppelins which used the motors manufactured here. If you are very interested in cars, the 9 Euro entrance free will seem reasonable. If you aren't, it will seem a bit steep. The museum is about a 10 minute walk south of the old town, which is worth exploring and where there are some good hotels.
