In the area and in need of a toilet we decided to take a look round.It was a wonderful find and we spent some time there looking round the old building with its wonderful history also the musical instrument making. We were glad our call of nature had led us here!!!

This city museum has an amazing variety of things, and it's hard to imagine anyone getting bored. "Dance with Death" scrolls are very interesting though all in German. Old violin and lute collection better than anything like that I have seen the library alone is worth the visit. I found on display what looked like a book of actual pages from the local daily paper, and I found the page that was printed exactly 101 years earlier, to the day. All in German, so that is a challenge. All in all, this place is a gem of authenticity. Not to be missed, especially on a Sunday when most of the rest of the town is closed.

My family has a connection to the benadectine community in new norcia in australia so it was very interesting for me to learn the history of this ancient order of monks who once dwelt in this fine old building. The museum now housed in the old monestary presents well with new cabinets and signs, and shows a good cross section of the history of fussen, such as the rope and string factory, the stringed instruments it is famous for, and even some neuschwanstein history. The descriptions in the english guide book I was given explained everything very well. I found it fascinating reading about the daily lives of the monks...no wonder they got fat! They ate a lot, and sat and studied all day. I found this museum very interesting and the building fascinating.

The museum is tucked away at the lower end of the town by the river.Indide there are various digings from when it was a monastry.In the various rooms there are paintings etc,etc.What was most interesting for me was the musical section showing various old and interesting stringed instruments lutes,madolins,guitars and violins.There is a section showing how these instruments are made the craftmanship is fantastic.Although we did not have time to see it all we found it well worth the visit.The staff are very helpfull and speak english

Exhibits history of Fussen town from early Roman era, through Medieval and Rennaissance period. Of particular interest are archaeological finds from Roman through Medieval period as well as musical instruments. Fussen has a long history of lute and other string instrument production including up to the present day. We were fascinated by the construction methods clearly shown in the exhibits. The interactive screens in each room allow visitors to hear the various instruments being played. There are lovely Baroque/Rococo interiors with great views of the river. We could have spent more time here and left with regret.

This quirky museum, just a few minutes from the interesting castle, contains some quite fascinating rooms : an extraordinary exhibition of lutes, the famous Dance of Death mural, and some truly beautifully decorated rooms.
