This is a remarkable site, worthy of its UNESCO designation....visit it by bicycle, along the beautiful Weser bike path...founded in the 9th century, it is a rare jewel in a beautiful natural environment.

Corvey Castle does have a rich history and is well worth a visit but I would advise a tour -have been there twice - with and without tour - the tour helped to understand a lot about why they are so pround of Corvey and its role in history and why some parts of it look really fancy and others empty. It was a very important place and has an an interesing mix of architecture. Also nice - the winery does a lovely sparkling wine in a very decorative bottle - a nice gift, plus local produce and honey, soap and the like. The cafe is also worth a visit- with sunny weather you can sit out side and there is a coffee & cake deal.

We had a lovely walk along the river side to reach the Schloss. The building is quite extensive with beautiful grounds. A Visitors shop available.

You start your tour with a visit of the very old church, more a big Chapelle. Beautiful! Then back to the corridors with interesting paintings, old juwelry etc. Don't forget to have a look at the small cimenterie. Upstairs amoung others, a view of the live in Höxter several centuries ago.

Höxter is a little city in germany, there is not much to do or see compared with other big germany or europe cities, but if you are there, this is a good option of "things to do" is a complex of medieval houses.

A very beautiful worthful trip through Teutoburger Land in western Germany: history, art, culture, nature: Stadt Höxter (Dom, Rathaus, very impressive medieval houses with "Spruchbandbalken") - Corvey Castle - Hameln town - Horn (Eggegebirge, Externsteine with remarkable carvings in the rocks, HermannMonument...), Detmold, Paderborn ...recommendable!

Corvey Monestary. Wow it was huge, the church was spectacularly Baroque, the Monestary was large and magnificently decorated. The library is contained across a whole floor of one wing, room after room of book cases. a surprise on the third floor was a small museum showing the development of Hoxter, with full scale reproductions incorporating genuine finds found in the town dating back to first settlement in the New Stone Age. . We spent two hours exploring the site. They are after gaining WORLD HERITAGE status. It would be well deserved.

Ich bin Ende September geschäftlich in Höxter gewesen und habe mir bei dieser Gelegenheit das frischgebackene Weltkulturerbe Corvey angeschaut. Bereits von Außen bietet das karolingische Westwerk einen wirklich imposanten Anblick. Da ich mit einem Geschäftspartner unterwegs war, der sich in der Anlage auskannte, war auch die Besichtigung im Innern ein Hochgenuss, weil mich mein Partner in die Weihen der karolingischen Bauweise einweihen konnte - ein Muss für geschichtsaffine Zeitgenossen.Ohne sachkundige Begleitung sollte man allerdings am Haupteingang zum Museum oder im Vorfeld über das Museum eine Führung buchen, da die ehrenamtlichen Wächter an der Kirche nicht sonderlich hilfreich erscheinen.

Wir wollten nur mal schnell am Rande unserer Radtour, etwas Kultur und Geschichte aus der Region erkunden, aber die große Anlagen mit den vielen Möglichkeiten benötigt doch mehr Aufmerksamkeit und so waren schnell 3 Stunden vergangen. Interessant ist auf jeden Fall die Buchsammlung uvm.

Wartezeit an der Kasse sehr lange bei nur ca. 5-6 Besuchern, Wir haben dann zuerst die Abteikirche besichtigt mit Extra-Eintritt. Nach 20 Minuten wieder an der Kasse zum Museum gestanden, und wieder gewartet obwohl niemand vor uns war, Grund : Die Dame an der Kasse führte offensichtlich ein privates Telefongespräch. Dann endlich, wir wurden bedient, aber - das der Eintritt für die Abteikirche verrechnet würde, darauf wurde nicht hingewiesen, ein Audio-Guide wurde nicht angeboten, obwohl sehr empfehlenswert, denn die Beschreibungen der Ausstellungstücke ist äußerst mangelhaft. Auf eine Zusatzgebühr zum Fotografieren wurden wir erst aufmerksam gemacht, als die Eintrittskarten entwertet wurden. Super !!! Das Museum selbst ist sehenswert, macht aber einen ungepflegten Eindruck.
