The visit of the cave is well organized. The stalagmites and stalactites are amazing. The path is almost horizontal on concret floor. Unfortunately there is only white light used. The place would be much more impressive if red, blue and green light would be used to show the stalactites etc.

Do yourself a favour & visit these beautiful caves if you ever get the chance, they have to be seen to be believed. €8 is nothing for what you get to experience. If that is not enough for you & you still have energy to burn, then take a walk down to the Aggitis Gorge, which is about a 10 minute walk further down from the ticket booth.

This cave does not seem much from outside but once you enter, you find yourself into a very rich cave, with ample room, high galleries and millions of stalagmites and stalactites. The tour is guided (included in the entrance fee) and last about an hour. The path is paved and you follow the track with your guide.

In about 2h from Thessaloniki you can find yourself in the most amazing cave with impressive stalactites and stalagmites in bright white and red colors. Tours are every 30 min starting at 8 till 5pm and always have a guide. To take advantage of your day, you could start early and plan a visit to cave Aggitis as well, which is further up north (closer to Drama). Or you could stop by the Archaeological museum and site of Amfipolis, located on your way to Alistrati cave. Extremely interesting area!! Highly recommended.

The cave is simply amazing. I have already visited twice and I would gladly go back again! The tour, which lasts around 1 hour and is included in the entrance price (8 euro) is to the point, providing several useful information without making you tired. The guide was well educated and happy to answer any additional questions! There is a nearby kinda of really small zoo (it's really on the open, and you can visit for free) which is up the hill with great view to grab something to drink and enjoy fresh air.

This is one of the biggest caves of Europe, and because it was a kilometer of a walk to the end , and another back, I didnt think I would enjoy it, but I was totally blown away by the beauty of this cave, the colours and height of it, with beautifull colours, I had never seen such fine detail in other caves The walk is completely flat with no up or down stair, and completely easy walk. We had a great guide who explained in detail and told us that there is still at least 700 meters to be discovered. The cost was a bit expensive at 8 euros per person, but once you finish you know that it is definately worth it.The only downfall was that you were not allowed to take any pictures, not even without a flash.

I live near the Cave of Alistrati...........so of course I have been several times and each time I visit it I thoughly enjoy it as each time I see something "new" something that I didn't see/notice last time. Its a must see if you are anywhere near Serres or Drama (Greek cities),I have taken my children,my parents and friends when visiting. It is sure worthwhile to go and visit the caves. There is a tour guide that will guide you and explain the caves history and how the caves were discovered and the temperature inside is steady all year round.I would surely recommend someone to visit the Cave of Alistrati as I will be going sometime again, its interesting and wonderful to see the natural beauty of this Cave!

At first you walk in and it's interesting until you come to this huge area that is absolutely stunning... You are now understanding much more!!! You begin to descend down man made steps that are slightly slippery with the wrong shoes... Be prepared for that. The steps are not well planned all the way to the exit. Every turn leaves you amazed at the formations and how huge in diameter they are - the colors are awesome - you are transported to another time!!! I have been to many a cave and this one is my favorite to date. Visiting during off season and early in the day would be a great time, you will not be rushed to exit. I find no need to have to listen to music or the clatter of people speaking, to me it is more of an experience and not a tour. Enjoy and think that Alexander the Great might have walked thru this cave at some point!

The cave is big, the tour takes about 1h. Our guide was very kind and competent, answered all of our questions and translated everything in English, we also received a piece of paper with the text in our language.I would recommend you to leave the car at the Faraggi Hotel in Simvoli and take the 2km tour on foot, crossing the River Aggitis Canyon - very beautiful and it takes about 50min., normal speed.

The cave Alistratis is one of the largest caves in Europe. The rich decoration includes, besides huge stalactites and stalagmites in various colors and extremely rare "eccentrics". The eccentrics or eliktites are rare formations created "defying" the laws of gravity and following irregular paths. The main feature of this cave - and that makes it unique in GREEK AREA - the great variety of them.  Characterized also unique for another reason: hosts a unique microscopic organisms (3 chilst.), Such as "Alistrati Beroni", a unique type of isopod. The corridors have visited length of 3 km. A very well organized inside the cave, and has been constructed in the center of a wide corridor flush helps you enjoy the stalactites, without fear lest you fall into the precipice or slipping while being nicely lit and along with the music heard during the tour, creates a fairytale scene ... ..! The tour inside the cave, performed by an experienced guide with specialized studies in the caves!   There is wonderful ventilation in all parts of the cave. The temperature inside the cave is 17 - 20 C (winter - summer). To make a 2 mm stalactite need 100 years ... The Austrian Dr. Zeeman, who investigated the cave, indicating that the final rock that fell into this is 700,000 years ago ... !!!!!   The cave belongs to the network of caves in the gorge of the river Aggitis along with four other known caves. The cave Alistratis is 6 km southwest of the town of Alistratis a small provinvial town near Serres, and is accessible from both Drama and Kavala, and from Thessaloniki (via Serres or Amphipolis.). Within walking distance from the entrance of the cave is the canyon of the river Aggitis.Well worth a visit to the cave AlistratisIf you combine with visiting other places of interest around there as canyon Aggitis, beautiful villages on Pangeo mountain and the archaeological park of Amphipolis can certainly have a wonderful weekend!dont miss!
