This Catherdral of Panayia is one of the most famous Cathedrals in the world within the Orthodox Christian community! Always wanted to visit Tinos island for this only reason. It was a dream that came true! God bless!

There is something definitely very special and unique about this church. I was lucky enough to go with a person who has a very deep and personal connection with the church who explained its history to me in great detail and even though I'm not a very religious person it was a fascinating and very moving experience.

Our Lafy of Tinos is a very beautiful church! It has a miraculous icon, which according to tradition, was found after the Virgin appeared to the nun St. Pelagia and revealed to her the place where the icon was buried. The icon is widely believed to be the source of numerous miracles.! I felt like I was in heaven!

I was with a group of 30 but visited the church in the early morning hours (6:30) with a friend I traveled with from Athens by ferry boat (4 hours). The church is reverent, the priests and the choirmen were very soothing and relaxing to listen to. The steep climb of stairs was difficult, we did it at a slow pace and because it was so early in the morning, it was relatively cool. We lighted our candles and were very thankful to have made this trip that we had planned (a tama) for the last two years.

This was our first time to Tinos, and to visit this beautiful church! It was amazing to us to see people crawling up to the church on their hands and knees, and also seeing people kissing the pictures in the church. A very strong faith was among us. We had never experienced anything like this! Views from the Cathedral are also very beautiful, as is the walk up to the Cathedral. Worth the visit even if it is very busy!

I'm not religious, but I am always interested in people who are religious. I don't understand the crawling thing, but I'm not going to question their faith.

Whether you are a Christian believer or not, there is tremendous energy in this site and the faith of pilgrims will certainly touch you.If crowds are not a problem for you, best time for a visit is on 15/8 when the litany of the famous icon takes place. Special services are held every day on the 15 previous days. (morning and evening). What one might not like would be the commerce built around the pilgrimage/faith.

The place for all Greeks is consider to be a religious worship. It 's a place that every Greek has or must visit if he is religious. The place has been found after a vision that a nun had many centuries ago. I'm not going to tell you, the vision, because it is worth of visiting this place. The emotional tranquility that somebody can feel cannot be described. It's ideal to visit the church not on Sunday and not in weekends, because the place is packed with people who want to worship the icon. Be sure to visit the museums that surround the church (among the works of art of local sculptors and painters (Gyzis and Lytras) you will see the ring of Kolokotronis (Greek revolution hero), 3 Olympian winners medals, Rigas Feraios (Greek writer, political thinker, enlighter and revolutionary) true copy of 'Chart of Magna Grecia" and a vast variety of valuable (Gold and daimonds) dedications to the Mother of God.

Tinos' main attraction is the Panayia Evanyelistra Cathedral, a centro of pilgrimage for Orthodox Christians. It's very popular, attracting crowds of pilgrims, some of whom crawl to it, uphill, from the main square. If you intend going to the liturgy on Sunday, go early. Attracts thousands of pilgrims on the annual feast day (August 15th), so book your hotel well in advance (1 year) of then, or join the many sleeping outside.
