If you want a beautiful and quiet beach, don't turn to Vai but go ahead for 5 minutes (by car). Then leave your car in the parking, climb 5 minutes to the hill and descend to the beach. Long beach, sand mostly, few possibilities for shadow. In the end in other caves nudists are around. Really suberb place, but take your umbrella, some food ans especially water. Nice views, too - some old ruins on your right.

A big thank you to fellow reviewers that recommended this beach. We went to Vai beach first and found it too crowded. So we drove a few minutes north and found Itanos. It looks just like the photos that have been posted by TA reviewers. Although it has no WC and showers (one can use those in Vai), but it has a great view of the ruin across the hill, the water was warm (in mid September) and crystal clear, great for snorkelling indeed, and there are some areas that provide shade from the sun. This is the beach to spend a day on!

There are 3 beaches next to each other at Itanos. The central one is very small, most people seem to head to the beach immediately to the left (North). The South beach (on the other side of the ruins) is a short (250m) walk and is much quieter and great for swimming. Unlike most of the other "good" beaches on crete there are nowhere near as many tourists (presumably most of them have gone to Vai, just to the south). I'll be going back next year.

This is the best beach in Lasithi. Quiet, beautiful, clean waterr and amazong scenery. Looking at the ancient ruins of Itanos while swimming, does it get any better? It is quite a long ride but the road is fine. Then a short walk over the cliffs and you find yourself at the beach! Do visit!

This is one of the best beaches of Lasithi and Crete. Being very close to Vai, the place stays, happily, unorganized and un-touristic. You have to walk a little and climb up and down for the beach (not difficult path). The water is clear blue and the beach is sandy. You can walk a little and admire the ancient town of Itanos.

Ok...non è una spiaggia attrezzata...non c'è niente di niente...ma per noi Itanos ha battuto tutte le spiagge visitate nel lato Est di Creta! Un piccolo paradiso incontaminato...che tra l'altro è semplicissimo da raggiungere una volta che si è arrivati dalle parti di Vai...la caletta più bella (e più ampia) è quella che si raggiunge a piedi superando la collinetta adiacente al parcheggio...andateci, non ve ne pentirete!

La spiaggia si trova pochi KM a nord di Vai Beach. La strada, praticamente, termina a ridosso di questa caletta. Bel mare, spiaggia selvaggia fanno da contorno all'antico agglomerato di Itanos (oggi visitabile). Merita una visita, prima o dopo aver visitato Vai, anche per assaporare l'evidente contrasto tra la super trendy Vai e la selvaggia Itanos.Portare acque in quanto nessun servizio bar è attivo.

Les trois criques d'Itanos beach offre un moment de tranquillité agréable. Peu d'ombre sinon sous l'immense palmier de la première à droite des ruines de la basilique. Prévoir des chaussures pour la baignade. Pas de "taverna" sur la plage.

Dopo essere stati due giorni di fila a Vai Beach, abbiamo trascorso una mattinata fantastica in questa piccola caletta non lontana da Vai, solo 1 km in auto. Seguire da Vai le indicazioni per Itanos e lasciare l'auto nel parcheggio sterrato. Si sale a piedi su una collinetta (non ripida, io ci sono stato con un bambino di 4 anni) e il paesaggio diventa ad un tratto incredibile: una caletta incontaminata, spiaggia di piccolissima ghiaia bianca e colori del mare fantastici. Portatevi ombrellone, teli da mare, acqua e se volete stare di più anche da mangiare, perché non esistono bar, taverne e servizi. Solo voi ed il mare! Pochissimi turisti, quindi completo relax! Consigliata davvero!
