Cretans still dislike Germans (though they still like their tourist Euros). Find out why (hint: the Germans treated the natives like swine, and wantonly killed civilians, unlike the Italians who occupied the eastern half of Crete during WWII) by seeing the interesting WWII invasion of Crete exhibit.

Lots of ship models and sea shells. Depressing display about the Nazi invasion of Crete in 1941. Good of its kind, but horrifying.

Good little museum, lots to look at and read about, and has lots of old memorabilia. The WWII stuff is particularly intersting. Gets very warm in there though, but then it is Crete :-)

Loved our visit. So much to see and especially enjoyed the 2nd world war stuff including the mock up ship bridge. A vast collection of material to view. We spent almost two hours and just scraped the surface.Lots of pictures, boat models, uniforms etc. Great for youngsters wishing to learn about the history of the sea.

The recreated Minoan ship and other historical ship were very interesting but don't miss the wide ranging history of Greece and Crete including an extensive collection about the Battle of Crete (WW2) in the other section of the museum at the other end of the harbour

This is a small interesting museum on two floors. It has many interesting models and details of the battle of Crete . Clearly if you are not interested in maritime matters then there is little point in going. Whilst I was in the area i visited both the British and commonwealth war cemetery and the German cemetery at Maleme.

This contains lots of model boats and model recreations of ancient sea battles. Upstairs is information about the German occupation of Crete, including a little book with details of various Australian soldiers stationed there and a wedding dress made from German parachute silk. If you get a combined ticket you can also go and see the Phoenican boat across the harbour.
