Situated in a former mosque, the museum is in fact one (big) room. Mainly religious orientated. Good time bars in English concerning history of Chios.

The Byzantine Museum has now moved into the beautifully refurbished mosque in the central square of Chios Town.The collection is quite small, but beautiful. The highlight has to be the very early frecoes (removed from local churches for preservation) and icons. There are also some lovely architectural fragments and early gravestones. We were warmly welcomed by the custodian. He was keen to share his knowledge (in English). We sat and sketched and he was quite relaxed for us to be sat there.

We managed to get to the entrance lobby in the museum. We peaked into the room behind and saw it covered with various historical works of art. It was definitely an appealing sight.Unfortunately, the 3 staff members in the entrance did not understand the concept of "service" (public employees... surprise surprise). The man behind the ticket desk was chatting away on the phone (we're Greek so we know he was talking aimlessly). The two women on the other end of the room made gestures of bewilderment, but didn't actually walk over to sell us the tickets. We left.

Ενα ενδιαφερον μουσειο στο κεντρο της πρωτευουσας,στη κεντρικη πλατεια της πολης--πλατεια Βουνακιου-που στεγαζεται σε οθωμανικο τζαμι!Και μετα να φατε λουκουμαδες καταπληκτικους στη μικρη πλατειτσα απεναντι απο την εθνικη τραπεζα κατω απο τα πλατανια και να περπατησετε στον εμπορικο δρομο της πολης με τ'ονομα Απλωταρια!

In het centrum van Chios, druk bezig met renovaties. In dit klein museum zijn enkele beeldhouwwerken, schilderijen en vondsten te bezichtigen uit de Byzantijnse tijd. Niets speciaal, een tussendoortje.

Πήγα να δω τον πίνακα του Ντελακρουά αλλά ήταν σκεπασμένος , λόγω εργασιών. Καλές οι πληροφοριακές πινακίδες. Θα ήταν χρήσιμο [και κερδοφόρο] ένα κατάστημα δώρων με ανατυπώσεις εικόνων κλπ εκθεμάτων του Μουσείου. Στη Σκωτία πουλάνε νερό με ετικέτα ότι είναι απο την λίμνη Λοχ Νές.
