Right in the middle of Knez Mihailova (the "main" street) in a lovely building, but easy to miss among all the shops. It's mostly Serbian (and ex-Yugoslav) painters and sculptors from the latter half of the 20th century. On the ground floor, you will find more "traditional" art, and on the first floor there's some bizarre stuff, but all well worth a visit. Here and there you will find printed pages with information about various art movements in English.

Museum is placed in the heart of the Center. Employees are very kind and helpful. Mostly, there is Serbian art but there are regional pieces as well. You can bring your headphones and listen to Stravinski for example. You can watch, listen and cry from all that beauty.

Modern art is always welcome, and when it comes in a museum right in the heart of the Center, it is most welcome. This is not a big museum by any stretch, and that is good, You have more time to really admire the fewer pieces of art, and it was an eclectic collection mainly by local artists.

Although I believe just the building itself is reason enough to go inside...but onxe you are in...you get chills... something about the energy of this building and the art work displayed. It just captures you instantly.

This could have been more interesting if better organized - there was some leaflets with English explanations but not so easy to follow. The gift shop had nice interchangeable magnets.

From the outside we expected a small gallery. Indeed, the student price of 200 RSD (~2.5 dollars US) for the both of us initially made us expect a small environment. However, we quickly saw that there were many more art pieces than we expected. We spent almost 2 hours in this gallery, and even skipped one floor. The artwork was very good and we enjoyed many contemporary artists from the second half of the 20th century. It's mostly Serbian art but there are regional and international pieces as well.

On the main shopping street I thought this gallery might be interesting since the Modern Museum was closed. I was incredibly surprised by the quality and quantity of this gallery. What was to be a 20 minute stop become a 90 minute visit. Bring your music and headphones and settle in for the large quantity of art in this museum. Highlighting artists of the region and the various times of history affecting their styles. Paintings are separated in style sections and have brief synopsis of each era/style. English info cards are at each room entrance. The staff was very kind. The museum has a small cafe for coffee.

Truly a wonderful museum/gallery to spend a few hours in, excellent relaxing atmosphere and some wonderful contemporary works of art by Serbian artists.....truly worth more than the symbolic entrance fee. Other countries/cities in the world charge a small fortune to view such pieces. Very highly recommended.
