Unfortunately the museum was closed due to renovation when we visited Amasra. But we were together with a history professor who is specialized in Amasra and thanks to his deep knowledge, we have been able to enjoy the impressive artefacts displayed in the beautiful gardens. Pity that there were no signs nor explanations next to the artefacts, as it makes it impossible for common visitors to understand their value. Collection in the garden covered periods from Genoa to Ottomans.

The tiny museum has one of the best locations I've seen - at the smaller harbor on the Black Sea coast, with a rocky mountain in the background and it is impossible to miss it. However, it is currently closed for restoration for an indefinite period. You might catch a glimpse of the famous emperor torso at the entrance of the museum. Still, it is possible to see the courtyard of the museum, full of a surprisingly good collection of marblework. Roman architectural details and gravestones prevail, as well as some artefacts from the Genoese fortress at Amasra. There is little description about the display and it will impress only those specially interested in archaeology. If you admire Roman monuments, the museum staff can also advise you on how to reach Kuskayasi (Bird's Rock Monument), an impressive relief outside the town.

This Small Museum consists of four exhibition halls in a single ground floor. While first two halls exhibit archaeological finds other two house ethnographical items. Archaeological finds mostly have been gathered after some rescue excavations or found by chance in or around Amasra.One of the exciting pieces is Armoured Torso of an Emperor Features mythological founding of Rome. The relief on the armour depicts a she-wolf feeding the twins Romulus and Remus, the most famous image associated with the founding of Rome. Sculpture of a snake and funerary steles are among the other artefacts. Museum courtyard is also very rich with Ottoman Period Tomb Stones and Genoese Emblems like the ones in Amasra Castle.

This was one of the smallest museums i've been. There is no trace of history you may got suprised and no many details about current materials. It won't take much time if you still want to see..They should pay more attention to a museum in such a great historical place!

Amasra'nın köklü tarihini solumak için bu kadar küçük bir yerden beklenmeyecek kadar güzel bir müze. Amasra'nın şirinliği güzelliği içinde Denize bakan, sakin, küçüklüğüne göre oldukça fazla eser barındıran güzel müzemiz. Amasra’nın 3000 yılı aşan tarihiyle binlerce ürünün sergilendiği Amasra müzesi tarih hakkında kendini geliştirmek isteyenler için harika bir yer. Amasra’yı ziyaret edenlerin kesinlikle uğraması gereken bir mekan.
