As you can read from the other reviews, it's a great location. Down in the cave cellar it has a really nice atmosphere, and if you are there at night, when you come up you have the beautiful lights of Budapest.You won't find these wines at Tesco, they seem to come from smaller vineyards that the owners know personally.. They are very friendly and you aren't rushed which is very nice. Only hassle is no rest room so go before you go down!

Full disclosure, it's now been over 2 years since I visited the Faust Wine Cellar so take this review with a grain of salt. I'm not usually good about leaving reviews, but for this place I've decided to make an exception. To put it quite simply, a visit to Budapest without visiting the Faust Wine Cellar is like going to Rome and not bothering to stop at the Colosseum. It's literally mind boggling to me that 20 out of 630 trip advisors reviewers weren't impressed. For this not to be an experience that stands out to them these 20 people must live the most incredible lives. Maybe minnesotans4 is the real life James Bond and the other 19 are all billionaires, that's about all I can come up with. I'm a 27 year old accountant from the U.S. who loves craft brews and HATES wine. However, I read all of the amazing reviews and decided to take my girlfriend (a wine lover) to Faust while in town as a special treat. Looking back on my travels (I've traveled extensively across Europe, North America, the Caribbean, etc.), the two most memorable (and romantic) experiences I look back on are 1) a full day private charter of a 40 foot sailboat through U.S. Virgin Islands National Park (which will set you back at least $800) and 2) an evening at the Faust Wine Cellar. On the same trip across Europe we stayed in a beautiful hotel in Venice with views of the canals and had an amazing outdoor lunch on the top of a hill in the middle of a vineyard in Tuscany. An evening at Faust was more romantic than either.

I went to the faust wine cellar with my Friend for the 6 wine tasting experience. Both of us are aged under 20 and knew little about wine but wanted to expand our cultural horizons!!!! Gabor was more than happy to explain everything to us, from how to taste wine correctly to the processes of fermentation ect. All accompanied by a basket of delicious cheese scones!!! We left with a new appreciation for wine! The wine cellar setting is also lovely, very authentic and serene. All in all we had a fabulous time and learnt a lot. So don't tp hesitate to visit, and as prpmised, we will return ;)

The three of us pre booked a reservation at 2:00 on a Thursday. We opted for the 5 Hungarian wines plus the full wine pour for the sixth. The cost was around $19 US dollars. There is no internet access in the cellar which means that everything needs to be paid in cash. Also, there are no restrooms so a person needs to plan ahead. The Faust Cellar is located in the Hilton Hotel.The wine server explained the region and the characteristics of the different wines. We had 3 whites and 2 reds. The wines were between $7-13 US dollars. We did buy two bottles. For the sixth pour, we could choose the wine we preferred but it was still poured as a sample. We were each given a basket of fresh from the oven scones.It is a very small area with several levels of steps. There are throws for people who may feel a chill.I was not as impressed with the wines as compared to the wines that we sampled in Etyek. It was rather expensive to sample the wines.

Just perfect in every aspect. You can not only try out the wine you love here but also get explained in detail about the wine itself. Furthermore, they also got quite a collection cheese. Very friendly and knowledgeable staffs!

A fantastic experience that I would highly recommend to other wine (and cheese) lovers. We booked our table in advance, which I would advise as the wine cellar is only small but the perfect setting for any occasion. We had a table booked for 5pm, we were greeted by the owner who was very friendly and had vast knowledge of the wines on offer. The evening was relaxed, you are able to sample a generous amount of either 5 or 8 wines, a mixture of white, rose and red at your own leisure, accompanied by home made cheese scones (served warm, these are delicious) and cheese. (Cheese was ordered as extra we had food envy of the party next to us, but this wasn't a problem nothing was too much trouble) After your wine tasting you can enjoy a glass of your choice in the wonderful setting of the candle lite wine cellar under a blanket if you get a little chilly. A perfect evening, a must do in Budapest!

We went to the wine tasting as a party of 8 couples ( 16 in total). A very friendly chap met us outside and led us down quite a few stairs into a lovely well set out table in the wine cellar. We tried approx 6 wines, 2 fizzy, 1 rose, 1 white and 2 red. He explained each one individually and gave you time inbetween each one to enjoy it and chat amongst yourselves. You also got a small selection of savoury scones to eat during the tasting. The guide spoke very good English and was very friendly.I would recommend this as part of your trip to Budapest

For 19 euro you can try 5 different wines from all around Hungary and then choose a 6th of one you tried or another. If you are felling really adventures you can choose the 8 and choose the 9th.They poor half glasses so you don't have to worry about getting to messed up. There were only tourist when I visited I would go on a limb and say very few locals find themselves there. The scones where not all that but your there for the wine so its not that big of a deal. You really must book in advance as there are very few tables.

Visited this wine cellar during a long weekend in Budapest and tried the 'curiosities of Hungary' short tasting so we paid 5400huf (about £13.5) for six small glasses of wine (my bodboyfriend tried 5 wines and a palinka) and three of their tasty little cheese scones each - so cheap by UK standards but a little pricey compared with Budapest prices. Unlike other wine tastings I have been to, I was pleased to discover they give you a small glass of each wine, as opposed to just a 'taste'. The location is beautiful as can be seen from the pictures, and the gentlemen serving the wines was very friendly and informative giving us plenty of time to enjoy each one. Our biggest complaint was that as it is quite touristy we were close to a larger British group who's loud conversation we couldn't really avoid! But that wasn't really the fault of Faust!

We booked an afternoon wine tasting at the Faust Wine Cellar situated 54 steps down in the hills of Buda below the Hilton Hotel but in the old part of the building. The husband & wife team are great and have a passion for the more boutique wines, smaller parcels but omg they are great. We had 6 wines to taste and we spent around 2 1/2 hours in the cellar, this is not to be rushed and you are under no pressure to drink up and move on, in fact totally the opposite in that they encourage you to really enjoy the wines overs a few hours. We chose to do the 5 wines + a call back wine, the call back can either be one that you have tasted or one of the special call back wines which you can pay a bit more for, the most expensive being around £5! we choose as our call backs Tokaji Szamorodni 1972 & Tokaji Aszu 6 Putt 1974, both very different but fabulous from the additional list. This is one of the best afternoon's you can spend in Budapest, sampling lovely wines from small vineyards in a cellar, being told about the wines you are tasting and enjoying them and the atmosphere, one word describes it "Cracking"
