These waterfalls emerge from water that has been carried underground from far away. The waterfalls are wide. The view is fine with beautiful colours.

If you find yourself in this neck of the Icelandic woods (despite Iceland's lack of trees!), then this is a definite stop off. Come here and see the lava fields from past eruptions and the rapids and waterfalls that run through it. Helpful signs give information and there's an associated legend. Worth a visit.

( Beginning of May trip) Hraunfossar wasn't the biggest waterfalls, that we saw in our trips, but after we left reyjavik it was our first step. Under the rain, to take some good picture, to take time to walk and to look the volcanic landscape. It's a good step to do if you have the time. In 30 minutes you will have the time to see the site.

While Hraunfossar and Barnafoss may not be the tallest and most impressive waterfalls on earth, there's something about how their surroundings and even the drive there frames them that made the whole trip there totally worth it.The drive there is a bit long and mainly bad gravel roads, but I'd still recommend taking the time to get there. Make sure to walk around the whole area to get a good view of all the falls, rivers, rapids and cliffs around.

The snow and ice made this a magical place to visit. A path takes you to various view points and there is a bridge taking you to the other side.

Hraunfossar certainly isn't the biggest fall in Iceland, but it was one of our favorites. The falls appear to start out of the lava which makes them really beautiful and different from the dozens of other falls we had seen.Parking is free and there is a short path to the falls. You can walk up a short bit and see Barnafoss as well. Barnafoss has a nice bridge across it and lava fields on the other side you can walk thru if you want.

Maybe we were a bit spoiled with natural wonders during our road-trip across Iceland, but Hraunfossar just lacked a bit of the "wow" factor. It's nice for a quick stop/over if you've got plenty of time, but it's also OK to skip it if you're a bit in a hurry.

Just a short drive off the highway, we found this beautiful place. Many small paths and lot of different waterfalls to view. Many travelers here. You can get some magnificent pictures!!

A really beautiful place. As every atractions in iceland, the entrance is free. Good place to walk trail.

loved this waterfall as it is so different than the many others we saw in iceland. the water pours out of the lava without an obvious source which makes it truly magical. it is 2900 feet long, so it is quiet an impressive sight. there is another more typical fall located in the same viewing area so you get the best of all falls!
