I am an avid hiker, and love adventure, but I had never backpacked before, and I am NOT built for that. The views were amazing, but I was in pain the entire time! It took us 7 hours to hike from the base camp to the first stop, so we gave up & went back the next day, got some amazing photos though

If you are looking for a varied hike, that's challenging but not unachievable by a person of average fitness, a hike in which the scenery and challenges constantly changes, no shops, no roads, fantastic people, and freezing cold river crossings then this is the hike for you! I have written about my experiences of the hike that I did in August, 2014 on my blog http://muddymam.blogspot.co.uk.

One of the best hikes in the world. Scenery is always changing and uncovering new and unexpected beauty. I'd recommend going in July or August. Take your time and enjoy the hike. The attached day hikes are highly recommended!

If you like beautiful, changing scenery, this is a hike you really should do at least once. We spent 3 days doing the hike from Landmannalaugar to Thorsmork, but could easily spend there a few more days on various shorter side hikes, if we had the time. One important thing to note: the weather will make all the difference. We were incredibly lucky with clear skies and nice temperatures for the entire time. The hike is physically not extremely demanding, but if you're carrying all the food and camping gear as we were, it's still challenging and you need to be fit. The nature around you more than makes up for the effort! The campsites are very basic, Hrafntinnusker being by far the worst in terms of bathroom facilities.

All the stuff you hear about Iceland - its' scenery, sense of nature, magnificence is true about this place. Making your way tp Landmannalaugar, if U have a opportunity take superjeep, crossing rivers and moon, crater-landscape towards the parkOnce arrived enjoy a hike crossing the lava field when all of a sudden, this plateau of stunning colours appear before your eyes. The colours in the rhyolite mountains defied my expectations.Further enjoy a warm bad in the river or visit the natural fumerols spitting out sulphur. Really spectacularHighly recommended

All the stuff you hear about Iceland - its' scenery, sense of nature, magnificence - was summed up in this hike. Making your way from Landmannalaugar, crossing the lava field when all of a sudden, this plateau of stunning colours appear before your eyes. The feeling you get when this happens is beyond words. The colours in the rhyolite mountains defied my expectations. The best part of my trip to Iceland without a doubt! You do have to be of a certain level of fitness, not too much though. Some trails are very steep and vertigo-inducing but are highlighted on the map the tourist office sells but only helps to make this place feel as rugged and as far away from commercialised as possible. Cannot recommend enough!

The scenery here was spectacular, the hiking was great, and basking in a hot spring in the middle of nowhere was great fun. Visiting Laugavegur was one of the highlights of our trip to Iceland. The beauty, peacefulness, and lack of commercialism made this place unforgettable for my husband and me!

The colours of the mountains here are incredible, great views and fresh air! There's also natural hot springs that you can take a dip in and chat to the other locals before going on your way. Unfortunatley though, there are flies EVERYWHERE! literally, they are constantly flying into your face, mouth, ears (bring sunglasses!), so much that a few of the people on the guide had to give up before really setting off. Also this is very far from Reykjavik.

This is a must do trek for lovers of epic treks and hikes. Between the huts/campsites, there are no bathroom facilities, nor is there tree cover. The huts charge 1000 ISK to recharge each battery or cell phone.

Great valley with beutiful landscape and an awesome hot spring! But be careful to bring a regular rent car because it's dust roads there and you can get stuck...
