It is about 3 miles off Ring Road on Road #206. Easy to find but the road is not maintained in the winter. There is a small parking area with restrooms. It was solid ice topped with an inch of snow when we were there in January. We had to be very careful driving there and walking once we arrived as it was super slick. If you have time, it would be awesome to hike to the waterfall at the end. We were short on time and just hiked to the nearest lookout point for a picture or two. Looks completely different in the winter vs the summer photos.

We lucked on this canyon just out of Kirkjubaerklauster heading back towards Vik. It was about 10 k off the ring road, on a minor road, with pot holes, but ok if driving slowly - and we had a very small car and we had no probs. We had no real idea what we were heading to see, but just drove till we found a car park full of cars and people walking off across the hills. This is a canyon area, with a walk along the top of the canyon about 2k to the end. It is not difficult walking, a bit muddy, and no guard rails at all, so if you have kids, don't go out on the individual pinnacles, as the drop is huge! The canyon has carved out interesting shapes in the cliff. It ends in a waterfall. We took loads of pictures. A wonderful spot to stop if you are on your way from Vik to Skaftafell. Ask for directions at the information place at Kirkjubaeklauster. There are toilets at the Car Park.

We rent a car with 2WD but we went there. It is only 2 km from rute 1. If you dont want to drive then you can walk. Dont miss this. For me, most beautiful canyon I have ever been to, and it is in top 3 places I have seen on Iceland

Beautiful and dramatic with black jagged cliffs, vivid green mosses and the bright blue water, you can hike in the canyon (unless it's summer and very dry, you'll need to do some wading) or you can follow the right top edge of the cliffs up to the main waterfalls. If you're coming by Vik or going all the way to Skaftafell then it's definitely worth stopping off to visit. It's just 10 minutes off highway 1 up the 206, and there's a little parking area with some new toilets. When we arrived there were no other cars and when we left there was one other couple hiking up - a great escape from the tour bus stops!

A little off the tourist route which made it quiet and unspoilt. The canyon and waterfall can be viewed from the bridge close to the car park, but for more interesting views you can climb along the top of the canyon. We were lucky to have beautiful sunshine in November so the light and shadow made for spectacular photographs. The only downside was that the toilets are closed for the winter

Breathtakingly beautiful, a short distance from the ring road. approx 2 hours drive from Reykjavik in the South of Iceland. Best if included in a trip to the South.

I found this place on one of my fav's photographer's instagraman, saw many pictures on instagram and was really determined to make kt to this place! We had difficult keying the name into the car's gps and had to use our hotel's wifi to load the gps on my phone but not a difficult place to find! We went early in the morning and there was nobody there it was really pretty! We went up to the canyon edge but do be careful! The area surrounding the canyon is really pretty as well really glad we went.

A bit of a hike but well worth it. The views were spectacular. The canyon is quite steep but if you don't want the sttep hike you can always go along the river.

This place is seriously beautiful, and was one of my favorite in Iceland. An easy drive and an easy walk along the edges of the canyon- just be careful! Make it to the end and enjoy waterfalls from every direction.
