Apsolutely best part of Zagreb, you have to walk a lot of stairs to get there but it will be worth it!!!! You can check Markov trg wich is special because of Marko's church with very nice and symbolic roof

A pleasant and aromatic atmosphere, walking through these streets with my friends. Although it was a weekday, the bars were full of people.

Nice start point to explore the city of Zagreb. Very nice old buldings, just few steps from very center of city, Jelačić square. At the top of Gornji Grad you can see Zagreb at glance.

If your'e in town then you must take a short walk around the upper old town. Its a nice walk that isn't hard and can be done also with strollers. At the top you will find also a nice coffee place and excellent museums.

Beautiful old buildings, nice taverns, some medieval remainings, good museums, some buildings should be renovated and opened for public.Biggest problem is no parking because of corrupted politicians.

Its difficult to understand the upper and lower town descriptions. For us, walking up from the main square saw us in markets, lanes of restaurants, pubs and cafes and a lively area. I suspect this is called the lower town - slightly further up is the top of the hill with its views and old buildings. The entire area is worth a stroll and represent s what we thought the best of a city without much for the tourist (and locals we met confirmed this). if it the city this is where I would head first - there isn't a lot after that

I visited the Upper Town in February. It was snowing and freezing. So I couldn't enjoy the liveliness of open air terraces, artists performing on the streets or other activities specific in a historical and touristic center. Instead I walked the streets and enjoyed the beautiful architecture. There are some small streets and public spaces that can easily introduce you in the romantic atmosphere of the second half of the 19th century and from the early 1900's. You will find some places for great views and "belvedere" points to take fine pictures. Also if you are interested, you will find here some museums. After this walks, if you want to rest, you can choose from a number of good restaurants and pubs. In conclusion, as I said before, the Upper Town I think is more lively in spring, summer or early autumn. If you go in winter and you have bad luck with the weather you can see all that it is to see in one or maximum two days because it is a small area.

The old, well preserved part of the city exudes old Austro Hungarian flair. the disadvantage is that the area around the old town has very little cafes, restaurants, and it is particularly interesting that there is not an ATM machine
