The last full day we had (my daughter 39 yrs old and her husband over from Canada) before they flew back home from a short holiday with my present Russian wife and I, was a trip out to the "Museum of Technics" as the literal translation reads. The weather was perfect with clear skies and a balmy 23°C - ideal for walking outside, along the rows of guns, aircraft and other weapons on display… not only on display, but people were allowed to mount and climb up onto much of the weaponry. We started out, by entering the electronically controlled car park, very neat and marked for each car. Less than 50 meters away was the first building of the museum, which is a 3-floor building, of which one floor was the basement level. We walked into the main floor (1st floor) containing massive numbers of cars from France, Germany as well as Russia, also from England (the rest of Britain did not make cars!). Rare examples of Western automotive industry since 1902. There were motor cycles galore as well as wartime vehicles from bicycles to powered gun transports. Brands included BMW, Alfa Romeo, Buick, and the historic and now extinct Horch and Delahaye brands. Moving to the top floor, we experienced another 'wow' in a collection of motorbikes from peace time and war time, a glimpse of the American automotive industry, as well as sport cars from Formula One World Championship.Entering the basement level, which contained almost all of the remaining Zil limousines remaining in Russia, we saw automobiles from other countries and none of these were manufacturer's gifts! They had all been pre-owned, yet were in very good shape. The museum's own web site boasts, "… exposition "Garage of the Soviet Land". Here are the most striking examples of the Soviet car industry, from popular to high-ranking."Finally, we moved outside and had a very leisurely stroll along well manicured grounds displaying jet-aircraft, prop-aircraft, helicopters, self-propelled rocket launchers, short and long range ICBM missiles, RPGs, and much more! Half way round the grounds, we saw a tent and smelled food. Entering the tent, we were able to buy snacks and cold drinks (including beer) from a pleasant USSR soldier (young and from the CIS and playing the role). He spoke a word or two in English and with a smile! We rested for about 15 minutes. We were there for about 3-plus hours and decided that we should beat the Moscow traffic to meet my wife who had left work early to spend the last remaining hours with my daughter. An enjoyable time and very positive comments from my son-in-law, an undercover cop, who said it brought his former understandings of Russia into reality, and changed much of the misconceptions that most westerners seem to hold about Russians. He really liked the experience and said that he was very happy that we had decided to go there. A real trip back through time!Do pay a visit if you can! Entrance per person is 300 roubles with OAPs are half-prive and it costs 150 roubles to buy permission to take video and photos. Children under 6 are free.

This is a fantastic museum just on the outskirts of Moscow featuring one of the greatest private collections of excellent restored cars (68), planes (82), motorbikes and cycles (115) and military equipment I have ever seen. All in one place and most under one roof. The detail of the restorations is truly amazing and ticket prices are most reasonable. Well worth the relatively short drive from city center to a wonderful wooded setting. Even for those of us who do not read Russian, you can get a relatively good idea of what's in store by visiting their web site: www.tmuseum.ru. (just play you way through until you find the "panorama"). Hope you enjoy

Fantastic place with many vehicles, tanks, helicopter, motor cycles, MIG and other planes. Have been there 3 times. They have English explanation which is unusual in most Russian museums; this makes the visit much more valuable. Easy to get to and park the car. You can get driven around in some old vehicles. Buy an extra ticket to make photos. Fascinating to see so much Soviet war equipment, but the also have some American and German equipment, and an old Fokker plane inside. The presidential Zil limousines and the car Yuri Gagarin was driven around are in the cellar floor.

Very interesting collection of old cars, motorcycles, guns, aircrafts and tanks from the wars. It is a little bit away from Moscow but easy to find: go with metro to Tushinskaya station and then (stay on this side of the road where you get off the metro station) take a minibus (marshrut) 151, 541, 549 or 568. If there is no rider, just sit inside and you will pay him when he comes. You can also take a normal bus, but it takes longer as the "marshrut" has not too many stops. Get out on the stop "Lipovaya Alleya" or ask driver where to get off - say the name of the museum.
