When I was there - it was very foggy. So, I didn't understand, how much should I go. So, the distance in snow was harder and harder, as I was closer to the castle. But when I finally got on the top of the hill - I was happy. It is really interesting to klimb there. But be attentive! And in a good weather there must be a good view on a town.

A very steep hill to climb to get to a ruin of a castle. We went straight up and descended through the proper path. there is a beautiful view from the top.

The ruins of once unassailable castle in Khust are one of those hidden gems of Ukraine that must be seen earlier rather than later. Although there were some plans announced (and even supported financially by a joint Ukrainian-Polish grant) to turn Khust Castle into the top touristy centre of the area, its present looks and condition are saddening. The remaining ruins only give a slight clue of the size and grandeur of the former medieval castle, which was the main Marmorosh fortification back in the Middle Ages. For centuries Khust castle has played strategic defensive role for the entire area.The earliest mentioning of the castle in Khust dates back to approx XI century. At the top of the hill, where once was a residence of either a knight of the road or a local feudal, the Hungarian kings have built the castle aimed at controlling the “Salt Route” from salt mines in Solotvyno to Europe. Most likely, before the Tatar invasion of 1241 the castle was made of wood, and only after the wooden one had been ruined, the one made from stone had been erected instead. Later, the castle had been rebuilt, extended and strengthened several times, including in XVI when it came into the possession of King Ferdinand I Habsburg and was supposed to serve the anchor of defence of the Habsburgs’ monarchy eastern frontiers. During the powerful anti-Habsburg movement in early XVIII in Transylvania, the castle in Khust was one of the centres of Hungarian struggle for independence. The rebels under the leadership of Ferenc II Rákóczi have seized the castle in 1703. But after the Rákóczi uprising failed in 1711, an Austrian garrison has been headquartered in Khust castle, and ever since then it has gradually begun to lose its strategic significance.In 1766, the gun powder tower was struck by a lightening, which led to a strong explosion that has severely damaged the castle. Since it was no longer crucial for the Empire, it was never restored and began to decline.In our days, those are only picturesque ruins of Khust castle to be found at the top of the Zamkova (“Castle”) Hill. It is in a walking distance from the city centre, and the castle is very well seen from downtown. You can’t drive up to the very top, and will have to hike. It takes about half an hour or so to reach the castle by foot, along some steep serpentine cobbled road running through the woods. But the result is surely worth it!Apart from the sizeable scenic ruins, you will be rewarded with the magnificent panorama of the city of Khust and the entire valley that opens from the top. In summer, mind mosquitoes! Entrance is free of charge. There is no information at all up there. So learn more about this amazing place before you go, to better appreciate it.

Несколько раз, и зимой и летом посетила замок. Ходят легенды, что это бывший замок графа Дракулы, где он зверски издевался над людьми. По дороге есть несколько могил, видимо это кладбище очень старое и заброшенное. Теперь там никого не хоронят. Не простая дорога наверх по серпантину, но это стоит того, когда попадаешь наверх - открывается прекрасный вид на город Хуст, на реки и горы Карпаты. По легенде, когда черти двигали горы, одна из них упала одному черту на хвост, он крикнут "хвуууст" и всем послышался "Хуст". Так и назвали гоодок. Сейчас ремонтируют центр и город приобретает популярности. Для меня он становится похож на какой-то маленький Альпийский курорт! Касательно же самого замка - если вы любите спокойные пейзажи, разваленные стены с привкусом таинственной атмосферы - вам сюда. Кстати стены, говорят из камня и яиц у этого замка.

Видно весь город! И где вы еще найдете замок, который как был 300 лет назад, так и остался, заросший травой и без людей. Правда только руины

По преданиям, этим замком владел то ли дед, то ли прадед Владислава Цепеша. Дорога к замку грунтовая, под горку. Подниматься минут 30. Увы, от замка остались одни руины. И если бы убрать всю зелень, которой поросли стены, возможно бы руины и выглядели достойно.

Если вы увидите старые картины с изображением этого замка, вам обязательно захочется побывать на его развалинах. Некогда это был величественный замок с красивыми башнями. Мер по сохранению исторических развалин никто не предпринимает и с каждым годом руины становятся все меньше и меньше, разваливаясь подчиняясь непогоде!Никаких удобств для туриста нет, в непогоду все дорожки вокруг размывает и ходить вокруг руин становиться тяжело. Информацию о замке нужно узнать заранее.. так как у руин замка информации очень мало.

Руины некогда славного замка города Хуст, уменьшаются с каждым годом. Зимой туда незачем ходить. Серое место, если нет снега и мороза много болота. Мало информации которая может дать ответ туристу - а что это!
