Place is not interesting at winter-no excursions, no fests. It's enough 30-45 mins to have a full sightseeing tour aroud the fortress. Place is interesting only by the fact it's the most saved fortress in the country. There are a few very small exhibitions that are free, I.e. paintings. It's worth to mention that there are too many wild dogs and it's creepy. Souvenirs are better to buy at wooden shops that are by right hand when you stay back to exit.

It felt good to be there, to walk the paths and climb the stairs that have seen so much history unroll before them. Dniester River is gorgeous and adds a certain 'je ne sais quoi' to the whole picture.

The Fortress is considered to be a thousand years old having been enlarged, destroyed and rebuilt several times and had several changes of owners. It is very impressive and the central part is slowly being restored. Surrounding the Fortress are the remains of extensive fortifications utilising the hilly landscape There is a small display inside one of towers of medieval weapons and instruments of torture. There is a church inside the Fortress and further up the hill, but still inside the outer fortifications another church, St. Alexander Nevsky church. It seems to have been recently restored and is in regular use. Across from it is are ruins of a mosque reflecting one of its many previous conquerors. One side of the fortress is guarded by the Dnister River and while we did not have time, I consider that you would get some impressive photos of the fortress from the river bank. There is a quite informative guide book in English available from where you obtain your entry tickets.

Well preserved. Non commercialized. The site lacks explanations and guidance, so read as much as you can before you're there. Nevetheless the place is just stunning. Must see.

The castle is remote from other settlements, so you can find a view which is likely to be unchanged for centuries. While walking from a parking lot you can admire pictoresque view to Dniestr river and surrounding battle fields.Inside fortress' walls you find a museum with exhibits from battle history of Khotyn castle.

There is not much in the fortress. Our guide explained the detailed history of place. There was also a beautiful church on the hill. Great view of the river.

It's definitely one of the most interesting castles in these parts. Although there's not much to see inside, you can take a walk all around. You can also take a walk down the outer walls where once the moat had been, and on the river banks. The fortress looks really magnificent from there.

Khotyn Fortress – a magnificient example of medieval defensive architecture in Ukraine, is located in 400 km fom Kiev, 70 km from Chernovtsy and 20 km from Kamenets-Podolsky.You can get there, for example, by train from Kiev to Kamenets-Podolsky, and then by local bus to Khotyn. Or you can get there by car.The fortress is very harmoniously blended into landscape and makes a strong impression! From three main position - top of the hills, lower shore of Dniester river and from inside – you’ll get a lot of really breathtaking views! The walls of the Fortress keep a long history and legends, that can excite your imagination, plunging into the events of the Middle Ages. Inside the fortess there is a lot of interesting things – a torture chamber, an ancient well, the tower of death. The Khotyn fortress often became a place for historical and folk festivals, knightly tournaments, for example world championship “Battle of the Nations”, that always are impressive and colorful spectacles. It's a little hard to get there without a car (you should walk distanse from the bus stop to fortress about 2 km through the village). Better to come in the morning to have some hours, because the gate will be closed at 18.00.

Khotyn Fortress (Cetatea Hotin, in Romanian) is a special fortress on the very shore of the Dniester river (Nistru). Having a tumultous history, this stronghold had several improvements over the hundreds of years. Being a de factor fortress of Romania, now lies in Ukraine, after USSR and Stalin took those lands from its right owner. Nevertheless, the actual Ukrainian rulers managed to include it within a tourist circuit together with Soroca and other fortresses. The actual walls, the look, the museums look very nice and its a very nice place to visit in Ukraine which definitely worth seeing. The real problem is the BAD condition of the roads to Khotyn, one of the worst roads in the world. So prepare yourself with a lot of patience to get to Khotyn as you'll fully need it.

Price of entrace is a little bit not adequate for the service which you get here. No any development for the last several years. Anyway, visit this place!
