I don't quite know how I felt about Nyborg Slot. Certainly it is not as impressive as one would hope, especially against some of the other castles in Denmark. What it does offer is the vivid history associated with the area. The conflicts between the Danes and Swedes playing an important part as well as the political intrigue for power. Maybe it is best summed up by saying that Nyborg Slot offers a rich lesson in history, to those that can look beyond the castle itself. Still a worthwhile stop to make. I would personally give it a "Good" rating.

The Castle is getting some renovation. The information is mostly in English. The surrounding area is very nice. The Castle has a tremendous history. Well worth the stop.

The Nyborg Slot is very historical but there is not a lot left of the original and the price of admission was quite high. In fairness, the price did also include the local museum but we weren't interested in seeing it. We ended up walking around the Slot instead of actually entering what appeared to be only a great hall.

2Seasoned-Traveller

The most important reason for us to visit is not the castle, but to walk along the mout and the river about 2 km's north of the castle where the major battle between the Danes and the Swedes took place in 1659. This is for real history buffs who likes to walk real battle fields. The Swedish army occupying the Nyborg castle apparently saw they couldnt defend it and choose to establish their defence north of the town over a long grass ridge. There in that field on November 14, 1659 about 19,000 soldiers were positioned against each other in the middle of a cornfield. The field is still there as it was at the time, and you can walk around and get a feeling of how it must have been for the soldiers. It is a humbling experience. The Swedish army apparently lost over 3,000 soldiers in this field. The battle was one of 12 over a 3 year period and resulted in Denmark giving Skane and Blekinge back to Sweden in return for a peacetreaty.Follow the trail from the castle north, and cross the mainroad, through the forest before coming to the large field. Easy level walk, abt 1 mile, and it is free. Внутри замка не были, но приятно провели время гуляя вокруг него. Походили по укреплениям, посмотрели на пушки, расставленные вокруг. Всё довольно просто, целенаправленно ехать туда я бы не стала, а вот заехать проезжая мимо на часок-дугой - почему бы и нет. довольно тихое местечко.

Nyborg slot er et middelalderslot og derfor skal man ikke forvente en oplevelse som hvis man tog på et mere moderne slot (f.eks. Valdemar Slot). Indholdet er i stor udstrækning reproduktioner af orginalerne, så mange af tingene må man gerne røre ved. Tænk på stedet som Hammershus på Bornholm, hvis der stadig havde været tag over hovedet der. Der er ikke helt så meget at se på som andre steder, men prisen er også relativt lav (børn op til 18 år gratis). Så der er et fint match mellem pris og indhold.Slottet gemmer på mange spændende historier og man modtager sammen med entreen en flot og grundig pamflet med beskrivelser. Vi havde et par gode timer på stedet! Som ekstra bonus for os med mindre børn var der et rigtig fint legerum i tilknytning til butikken.
