Having been to several fantastic wineries over a few days, I sort of got used to the set up of the tours and tastings. You get a little bit of history of the winery, take a look at the oak barrels, oh and look over there, a few more giant steel vats! This is all followed by a wine tasting of course. Bodega Casarena was an exception to usual equation. They greet you with a nice cool Chardonnay to let you do what you came to Argentinian wine country to do: drink wine. Now that you have quenched your thirst on a hot summer day and aren't wondering how long until the tasting, you can actually pay attention to the tour guide with sincerity. Our guide Rodrigo spoke very clear English and let us try wine straight from the vats. This wine was in the "near-ready" stage which was really nice to taste, especially because it made you really feel like you were taking part in the development of the wine. Also, he let us pour our own glasses so you get your money's worth. After an in-depth and interesting explanation of some unique vats the winery employs, we were taken into the barrel room for some more wine tastings. Here is where it got interesting. The woman I made the reservation with, Florencia, approached our party and decided to surprise us. She and Rodrigo took us over to a barrel and treated us to an experimental wine right out of the barrel! It was delicious and they said it wouldn't even be ready for another year. They asked us out honest opinions about it, giving us seconds and thirds till we could drink no more.I guess the best way to sum this afternoon up is that Casarena, besides having delicious wines (we bought three bottles), really tries to provide a memorable tour for their customers. They want your feedback on their wines and want to impress you with what they have created. You really can't go wrong with Casarena.

Our tour - Marina - guide greeted us with a glass of chilled "505" Chardonnay (2013) (505 is their entry level wines). It was delicious! We began the tour by walking out to the vines while our guide gleefully told us the history of Casarena - an investment to take over a failed winery with great success. She also brought us to a hole cut in the ground which allowed us to see the earth below ground and what work the vines must do to survive in this climate. Our guide then brought us to see the steel and cement vats holding the fermenting wine. She playfully explained the process and - with a cautious tone - informed us of the dangers inherent in working with dangerous gases. Marina was a real delight and made the tour extra fun.We then ended the tour with some tastings. Although the wines we tasted were ok, we were excited to purchase a of bottle of the 2011 Jamilla Family Vineyards Malbec and the 2013 Mythic Chardonnay; the 2010 vintage of the former received very high marks from Decantur Magazine (Best Malbec in South America, I believe) and the latter is the winemaker's private label.

Visiting Casarena is like embarking on a wine tasting experience accompanied with gourmet food and a breath-taking view. The staff was so inviting, sincere, patient, honest, and engaging in our conversations. It was like speaking with friends. I would definitely dine a the restaurant and enjoy the view of the vineyard nestled across the snowy alps. Casarena has lots of options to choose from - reasonable and fine tasting wines. The wine tour was endearing and interesting. They promptly shipped our wine and it was handled with care. I will always remember Casarena and will return next year!

This was our first wine tasting experience in Argentina, and it was outstanding. The winery itself is very beautiful, and our guides Maria and Florencia were very informative and fun. The actual wine tasting at the end of the tour is done in a beautiful room overlooking the vineyards with the Andes in the background. The wine is superb too!

We visited the Casarena vineyard in October and had a lovely experience. We were meet by two young ladies with glasses of rose and we introduced to the vineyard, soil conditions and history. Next we were shown around the processing plant and tasted several half finished wines (not very nice), finally we ended in the gift shop and got to taste one of their finished wines. Ideally I would have liked to taste more as they had about half a dozen different finished wines. Being met with a glass of rose was a very nice touch and very memorable.
