This striking natural phenomenon is definitely worth seeing. The boat trip available to show it offers the most outstanding views of it - quite mesmerising ones in fact. It also offers a lot of information on it and the very interesting fauna, flora and seismic activity all around it. It's an expensive two hour trip though (350 pesos each), poorly advertised and marketed, and it's exclusively in Spanish, with not even a printed handout for foreigners. To add to the feeling and warmth and welcome surrounding the trip, the boat police step up complete with firearms, to see the visitors off on this jaunt and to 'welcome' them back to shore. And then the guide's lip thickens visibly when no tip is offered for the information not given in any comprehensible form. The road to the site is a dirt one that extends more than 20 km. Oh, and the restaurant was closed - at 5 p.m. at the height of the tourist season. Another lost opportunity for the sulky, arrogant and incompetent branch of Argentinian tourism.

There is a great hike starting opposite the tourist office on Lago Huechulafquen which takes you to the base of the Lanin. You go for the hike which is through varied woodlands rather than the destination. They say allow 8 hours return but we did it in an easy 7 hours.You need to sign in at the tourist office but the walk is relatively easy if you are ok fit, anyway even 2-3 hours of it would be good.

El parque nacional es un lugar alucinante, siendo su mayor atracción el volcán en sí mismo. Quedamos maravillados con tanta naturaleza y lugares por recorrer. En Puerto Canoas, te ofrecen una excursión adicional para pasear por el bosque de los bonzáis y el volcán Villarrica. Nosotros decidimos quedarnos hacer vida de playa en el puerto, con una hermosa vista de cerca al volcán. Pleno febrero y mucho calor. =)

El volcán es impresionante. Realmente sobresale en la cordillera. Desde Puerto Canoas sale un catamarán que recorre los lagos Huechulafquen y Epulafquen, permitiendo postales increibles.

fuimos al volcán con el propósito de correr una carrera. el lugar nos maravillo, al dia siguiente fuimos temprano a la oficina del guardaparque para dar a conocer nuestras intenciones de llegar hasta la base. (es necesario anunciar al guardaparque que se va a emprender el recorrido) y también asesorarnos del estado del camino. se tarda unas 7 a 8 horas , hay que llevar agua y comida, (se puede recargar en los arroyos) , y la subida es bastante (bastante) exigente, lo ideal es llevar un par de bastones que ayudan en la trepada. el recorrido es exigente, no es para cualquiera, si no se esta bien físicamente no lo recomiendo, el lugar es increíble, el volcán es imponente

Especial para sacar fotos y darse cuenta de lo pequeños que somos ante estas maravillas. Si te gusta la aventura podes hacer el ascenso que hay que estar perparado para poder hacerlo. El lago Huechulafquen puede ser recorrido en barco y tener otras mejores vistas.
