museum in this drab city. We had some time to kill before our flight and decided to explore this wonderful museum. All you need is about an hour. It gives you an overlook of the Paleontology research which was done in the area.Very well done

So finally the news about to come, a team of argentinians discovered in estancia La Flecha, Chubut , the bones of the biggest fossilised dinosaur bones ever discovered and few are already in an exhibition hall. This news come aftetr a team of northamericans appeared in BBC news 2 months before.... The set up of the galleries, explanation both in english and spanish are really great! I do not hold any paleontological career and my kids are 12 and 14 and were exctatic during all the time we were inside. It is done starting from when humans are already here , in Rio Pinturas (Cueva de las Manos)and you go back in time till the formation of the first bacteria .Its higly recomendable to visit and spend some time.

Argentina is the hottest place in the world for dinosaur palaeontology right now, and this small museum has both a highly distinctive and locally idiosyncratic collection (i.e. it's all Patagonian) that includes newly discovered fossils of the largest sauropod that ever lived and charismatic examples of other famous Argentine dinosaurs, like Carnotaurus, Tyrannotitan, and my personal favourite, Amargasaurus. Also featured are numerous strange creatures like sabre-toothed marsupials and the giant carnivorous ratite Phorosrhacos.Unlike a lot of Trelew, which seems to have had its heyday around the turn of the last century, I would call it very modern; all of the poses and reconstructions I saw reflected the current understanding of the creatures reconstructed, at least as far as this enthusiastic amateur's knowledge permits such a judgement. My one-year-old daughter loved it. It's certainly worth a solid hour of your time if you're in Trelew. As for what else you can do, I've reviewed a hotel (which has a good restaurant) and at least one other restaurant, but really, it's a nice jumping-off point to Gaiman and Punta Tombo.

Nice little museum with an interesting film (english subtitles) & a couple of good, full size dinosaur skeletons. Good place to kill a couple of hours in Trelew!

Enjoyed our visit here. Especially seeing the femur and other bones from the largest dinosaur ever found 'la gigante' calculated at 76 tons in weight and put in the museum this year. They are still designing a suitable area to exhibit permanently. Exhibits well displayed and lit and information available in English language too. Friendly helpful staff and short explanatory films worth watching in small theatre.

Actually a very nice, if small, museum that was well done. Some very interesting fossils and enough English translations to make viewing easy. The small parking lot comes with armed police girl on bike who rides back and forth which was comforting if you have to park your car there.

It's my first paleontological museum.Came in when I did not manage to get to see penguins. But it is better than I expected as I could see quite a handful of dinosaur bones. It's a pity that the English explanation somewhat lacking on the specific exhibits. However as they say, let the exhibits do all the talking.

I visited the museum in Trelew while I was in Argentina doing research. We examined some decapod fossils they had collected and were interested in knowing more about. The research staff there are amazing and very friendly. The museum itself while small, gets to the heart of Argentine paleontology with a very wide variety of displays, from some of the world's most unique dinosaurs (Carnotaurus, Amargasaurus, Argentinosaurus, etc) to mammals, ammonites, crabs, whales and more. At the end of your museum tour, you can watch the staff prepare newly found fossils in their state of the art preparation lab. They have worked very hard through the years to build this museum into what it is today, and it is only getting better. It's a must see for anyone who will be in the area.
